My main takeaway is that despite my limited funds I should try Men of War. Not the first time I'm reading praise for the book. I'm already stretched by trying Animal Man, Demon Knights, JLDark among others.

News flash to the citizen of Dennisville: Cartoons are where kids are first introduced to a character looong before they sample the character in the original medium.

Before I ever read a Hal Jordan GL comic I saw him on Superfriends in the 80's. Likewise to kids growing up in the 90's to them GL is a black man and not your coveted Hal Jordan.

Sort of. The handwriting had been on the wall for a while - Jordan and/or the Corps always juiced the sales of Green Lantern whenever they appeared during the Rayner era. Johns did an extraordinarily good job of rebooting the thing, but someone was going to do it, period, for market reasons.

Sure someone was going to do for market reasons and that someone was Johns...he took Hal Jordan who was not very popular as the Spectre and restored him and the rest of the Corps, sales increased while still making Kyle Raynor a pivotal character. I'm not sure DC at the time had anyone else who could have done what Johns did and as creatively as he did as well.

Is there a decent comics shop in your area, Turtle? I grew up in Puyallup/Tacoma and man do I miss O'Leary's.

    Or are you all-digital?

I go to Comic Book Ink in Lakewood, right off the 5 at 84th. The shop is located right in-between the Lakewood cinema and the Green Pup bar.

And yeah, I miss O'Leary's as well.

Couldn't envision the location until I looked at a map, but I now I know where you mean. I'm through Lakewood on a regular basis; I'll have to swing by and take a look.

I haven't bought a new comic since 1995, but I'm trying to keep up on the latest news. If anything was going to start me collecting again, the new 52 would do it, but I still don't think I can justify the money.

John Munn, the owner of Comic Book Ink, was named "Tacoman of the Year" by the Tacoma Weekly this year (despite his shop being on the Lakewood side of the Tacoma/Lakewood border. LOL.). He is a "customer first" kind of guy and his shop is really friendly. He is friends with Brian Michael Bendis, and whenever Bendis is in town, he stops by the shop and signs everything that John has in stock that he wrote knowing that John won't charge his customers any extra for it.

Oh, dear - they sure pulled a "Clark Kent" on "Red" in Superboy. She really looks different without her glasses.

She looks nothing like the Fairchild in Gen 13.

    Humbug.

Anyway, I'll give them this: it looks like Watchmen compared to vol. 4.

    Lol.
