Routh's as good as any actor who's played Superman and better than a number of them. Of course, he does act as if he has feelings, which is an apparent problem for some fans.

I don't think Routh is a bad actor, I just think he's totally miscast as Superman.

And the problem with the acting in Superman Returns wasn't that the actors showed feelings, it was that they didn't show enough feelings. It seemed to me that Singer kept every performance in that film as downplayed and subdued as possible, so that the whole thing came off as detached, languid, and rather sterile.

31 actually. If we want to be anal about it.;)

And to correct my earlier post, I keep forgetting this is not 2009 anymore. He's 52 now.

I want to be anal about it.:bolian:

There were rumors floating around that Hamm was the front-runner, but haven't seen anything lately. I wouldn't be at all surprised if he got the role. After all, his ex-wife is now The White Queen. ;)

I wonder what an opinion like this is based on. Routh said and did so little of note in "Superman Returns" that I feel like it didn't give me enough exposure to his acting to really judge him fairly as a good or bad actor. As others have, I blame the director and writers of the script more than him.

Yeah, I know he's done a lot of movies since "Superman Returns", but the only one I saw was "Zack and Miri", and he was in that one for like 5 minutes.

So the opinion is based on his other works. You just can't form an opinion because you haven't seen his other works. But that doesn't change the fact that he has done enough work to convince other people he can act.

Personally, Chuck convinced me Routh is the right actor for Superman.

I'd rather see someone with some actual meat on their body, closer to Alex Ross's take. No more scrawny beanpoles, please.

All you need to look like Alex Ross' Superman is a barrel chest and the ability to constantly look at everyone with his head tilted way back, staring down his nose at them. Apparently Ross thinks these are the key elements to making someone look powerful.

And as I pointed out much earlier in the thread, Christopher Reeve was a "scrawny beanpole" when he auditioned for the part. The thing about muscle is that you can always gain more of it.

Well in that case, Patrick Warburton!

Who should also play captain marvel.

Warburton would have been a great choice for Captain Marvel several years ago (I don't really see him as Superman), but in any case he's too old for either role now: he'll be 46 this year.

Brandon Routh is by far the best choice.
