Asking 'round re: Toronto and Vancouver's representation on that list. I suspect that places like Sheridan and Algonquin Colleges (Toronto and Ottawa respectively) may be doing some of the training-up of Canadian talent.

Huh, so the "shields" in this universe are an actual substance coated to the hull of the ship, that's pretty cool. And explains a lot about the appearance in this universe. I like it.

Well, that also explains the barrier Khan is behind acting like a solid, where a hole can be moved around.

Matter that reponds to a charge, solid or maliable when needed, I remember that idea being mentioned when the film came out, but looks like they applied it to other parts of the ship too.

That's what I was thinking. That's new, and it's an interesting concept. Now all they have to do is not screw it up by over explaining it.

Er, it was already explained in detail in Mr. Scott's Guide to the Enterprise back in the 80's. That's where Abrams' people got it from, as I pointed out on the last page:

Regarding the Spacedock Manifest imagery: I can't begin to describe how exciting it is to see those other ships indicated at the dock!

The smaller constitution-class starship is intriguing, as is the enlongated 'excelsior-esque' starship (smaller ship, below small Connie ship). My curiousity is officially at max!!! Also - the other Nova / Voyager looking starship with the refit-style swept back nacelle struts is an interesting new design.

Interestingly, no sign of the the red-hulled, three-nacelled Armstrong-Class 'Excelsior' starship that was seen when the shuttle flies from earth to the Enterprise at Spacedock... perhaps it arrived after the Marcus office scene with the 'widescreen display'.

Whatever the case, I love seeing more starfleet vessels - and seeing these images is an illuminating experience, particulary in terms of starship-spotting.

    :)

Personal theory: The red hulled ship is a Vulcan ship. Standardize "Starfleet Design" but detached or operated by Vulcan.

I think he was talking about a full-blown explanation in a film. :techman:

Ah, ok. Yeah, on-screen it should have the same amount of explanation as the shields in TOS did!

Yeah - that seems the most likely and best explanation to me. Perhaps helping with the Vulcan refugee operation, operating between earth and the colonies.

    So much intrigue! :)

    Precisely :D

Although, having Scotty complain that a nebula they happen to be passing through is so thick it's "Scraping the shields off the hull." or something wouldn't be so bad.

Yeah, it's the red three-nacelle ship... in the shuttle scene.

I believe saddestmoon meant that the red Excelsior is not on the screen in Marcus's office, rather than not in that scene.
