You guys notice that Kirk seems to be treating Spock the same way the Vulcans were treated by humans in "Enterprise?" or at least similar to it. I wanna see this movie now Star Trek is never going to die.
I don't know. But they are kind of annoying. Aside from that though these clips are awesome. When I heard the bridge sounds effects I was impressed. Very TOS like.
Mostly very nice, but I think Brutal Strudel had a good question when he asked: Those seemed sorta busy and not so TOS-like.
Yeah, I did notice the doors sounding kind of funky. However the rest of the bridge effects were spot on.
I think the lens flares are only really distracting if you're thinking about them. I watched the latest clip 2 or 3 times before reading this thread, and barely noticed the flares. Then I read this thread and all the talk about flares, and sure enough, they stood out really pronounced in the clip the next go 'round.
I wasn't thinking about them the first time through. I just noticed them overwhelming the actor's faces. That's thanks to those numerous spot lights placed all around the upper part of the bridge. Which is one aspect of the new bridge I've never cared for.
I'm another who thought the lens flares were a bit too much...weren't there 2 in 3 seconds?!? Quinto was channeling Nimoy when he said the "Under threat of court martial" line Just look at his eyes! Not to say by channeling that Nimoy's passed on, sorry about that.
Loved the clip. Still hate the color of the bridge. White?? Are we in an operating room? Other than that I liked miffed Spock, Cocky Kirk, not sure about off 'kilt'er Scotty.(Sorry couldnt pass that up.)
If I'm counting right there are 12 mentions of the lens flares in this thread with only one person saying they like them. I'm not saying it ruins the whole film but it is annoying.
I've asked in the no-spoiler thread those who have seen the movie about the lens flares and the response I got is that they didn't really notice it in the movie, it wasn't a problem. So maybe it's the small screen of a pc and the poor quality of these clips that make it seem worse than it really is. We'll see.
That's how I see it, too. I guess they won't be distracting when I see the movie in the theatre. As for the sound effect for the door – I liked it.
I guess it's an individual thing. Some people don't register it, others notice but don't mind, and some find it distracting. Another thought I had though is why would there be lighting on the bridge that caused lense flares from a point of view angle. If your just standing on the bridge and the lights are constantly in your eyes it would be a distraction. I guess the design of the bridge set was influenced in part by Abrams love of the lense flare effect.
I read somewhere that the lens flare may be caused by encoding the film into flv files. Perhaps that's why they aren't so bad in the theater, but seem so annoying in the clips.
