^I think it's just Si Cwan who was bald. I vaguely remember something about blonde hair and red skin for Kalinda..

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Kalinda has hair. I'm don't really like that picture for her, it's just not how I pictured her.

You guys might have touched on this already--but wasn't there a mile long starship in a novel called a Defender class?

Vengeance looks pretty close to that in size...

Maybe it was the Yamato battleship (not the Galaxy class ship that came apart in TNG)

Ah, ok. I was sure I'd read that she was bald. But I guess not.
Here's the description of the Defender/Destroyer-class, from "My Enemy, My Ally", page 45:
I once tried making an outline based upon this description (and a 289m Enterprise) but it looked a bit silly, a massive hull and a tiny saucer and nacelles. I think Duane imagined larger Enterprise components when she wrote that.

The few instances we've seen slipstream in VOY's "Hope And Fear" and "Timeless", those slipstream corridors looked spherical in cross-section, not oval, and appeared small and best able to accommodate thinner ships a la Intrepid as opposed to wider ships such as Galaxy or Nebula. Someone better than computers than my own idiot self could probably toss up a few screencaps to demonstrate.

IIRC, this was debated a few years back either here in Lit or over in Trek Tech. The general consensus, I believe, was that slipstream tech development was well underway when Voyager came home, and the Vesta and Meerian designs were the most modern ones that were well-suited for the new developments Voyager brought back from the DQ with her. Kristin Beyer or Mark Rademaker or Christopher Bennett might wish to chime in here.

That does make the most sense, yes. I could never believe that the Vesta was designed AFTER the discovery of slipstream. Even when Voyager send back a lot of information to Earth before they got back home, the timetable just doesn't add up. So the Vesta and Merian already being in development and just happen to fit the bill for slipstream, works for me.

As I recall, the Vesta class was initially established as a testbed for prototype technologies -- slipstream just being one.

Have seen any images of the Demeter or it's class? I was having trouble getting a clear mental image while I was reading Protectors.

Demeter has a Vulcan spaceframe but Starfleet aesthethics.

Rademaker posted a few sketches in the past, and its silhoutette is on one of the German VOY novel covers.

You can also see it by typing in "USS Demeter" into google images. It shows up right away :)

    Yes, that's Soleta.

The hole exists on the original model as well.

The guy on the right is Mark McHenry.

I've been re-reading Vanguard, and reading the description of Rana Desai, I thought that Reshma Shetty would be a good fit for her (Yes, I know that David Mack already cast Parminder Nagra).

How can that be possible? There's no hole visible from the top.

No, third from the right. The person with the distinct hairline.
