Broken Bones!

Not speaking of Leonard H. here!

After 45 years on this planet, I suffered my first broken bone today - fourth toe on my right foot! It was a bizarre accident I won't elaborate on; but suffice it to say - it was an extremely painful "heard it go snap" type event!

Thinking about it, pretty much everyone I know has endured at least one, often several, broken bones, and I was wondering if I've actually been extraordinarily fortunate? I'm certainly not a stay at home "risk averse" person.

Can anyone top 45 years sans a bone break?

I only made it to 26. Mine was also a toe. I was running through the house barefoot and someone (I'm looking at you, mom) left a pair of ten pound free weights in the middle of the living room floor.

This past February I broke my ankle. Platform shoes and potholes do not a friendly combination make in the dark. I thought I'd just sprained it and so stayed off(ish) it for a couple days...basically cut my daily walking from 8 plus miles to 1...and then got on with things. I went to the doctor last month because it was still sore, and that's when I found out it was fractured.

I broke my arm when I was 4. Several toes since then, because I'm clumsy.

50

But I might have broken my Coccyx when I was in my twenties.

My first break was when I was twelve and I was playing football in Middle School. I was running and stepped in a wide hole for a sprinkler head that was covered by grass so I couldn't see it. My right foot twisted back nearly 180 degrees and snapped on the side of the arch and at the ankle.

Since then I've broken an arm, and several fingers and toes, mostly playing sports or doing stupid tricks on my bike and skateboard. I got my nose broken by a group of guys who jumped me and beat me up in high school.

I broke my nose once at work. Actually I think I broke it. I don't have many clear memories of that episode.

I made it to my early- or mid-40's. Totally innocent-looking chair leg jumped out and attacked a toe. I also broke a foot when I was 57. Didn't see an uneven spot on the sidewalk and went down hard. But the weird story is that a few months prior to that fall, I'd had really bad hip pain. My primary care doc at the time insisted that most hip pain was caused by back problems and refused to order x-rays unless two weeks of pain meds and bed rest didn't take care of it. I didn't buy the "referred back pain" theory, but I did feel well enough after two weeks to go back to work, and eventually the pain went away completely. Four years later, when I was having all kinds of imaging done for an unrelated reason, one of the radiology reports noted an old, completely-healed fracture of the pelvis! Whoa! No wonder my hip had hurt!

29 and change, and haven't. But...I have sprained toes numerous times and had surgery on both feet that have caused problems with some of the bones, so I guess it's only matter of time until one of them goes.

I'm 43 (almost 44 -- my birthday is in about a week) and never broke a bone so far. Not looking forward to it tho.

I hope it was not too painful! Wishg you to heal soon. But why won't you "elaborate"? You did say "bizarre accident", so I'm curious.

29. Never broken anything.

I attribute this to the multiple gallons of milk I drink every week.

Re: Broken Bones!

I broke two fingers on my right hand a couple of years ago, so around 33 years old. Sport accident. I was practicing jujutsu and took a bad fall on my own hand. Ouch.

I might have cracked my nose and a couple of ribs during practice some years earlier, but I'm not sure. I didn't actually get x-rays for them. They were painful, but not so much. I took painkillers and avoided working out for a couple of weeks, and I was fine again.

I was actually surprised it didn't hurt more. I guess it really depends on the specific location and innervation of the bone.

Twice when I was seven. Same leg about five months apart.
Then I broke an ankle when I was almost fourteen. Then my foot when I was 24.
