They should put the statue in the middle of the crater where most of Metropolis use to be.

Maybe the statue is from the end of the movie, and he does something more heroic in this one to earn it.

What's more heroic than saving the planet?

Taking a nuclear bomb 500 miles out to sea to protect the city.

Ignoring the fact that Gotham would then have to deal with radiation and fallout, dying a slow death as opposed to a fast one. I'm the biggest Batman fan in the world, but I find it interesting that Superman is held to a much higher standard than Bats.

Batman's lack of choice helps, there. What was he supposed to do?

Presumably Superman could've thrown Zod to the Moon, or the Gobi Desert, or anywhere else than downtown Metropolis.

Right. Because Zod totally couldn't have flown back on his own.

Well Zod's machine had already destroyed most of the city before Superman even got there, so it wouldn't really have mattered WHERE he threw him. And it's doubtful Zod would have cooperated anyway.

Because for some reason superman fans want him to be an omnipotent all powerful god that never makes a mistake.

Hence why they scream bloody murder if they nerf his power level to a reasonable non fanwanky level or write him like he is a real human being.

No, they want him to be the boy scout he's supposed to be. Superman is not an emo, brooding, will-kill-if-it's-easier-than-finding-another-solution vigilante. He's the definition of a superhero.

His powers don't factor into that one iota. Though when they start adding stupid ass powers, like celophane-shields, rebuild-Great-Wall-of-China vision, and slow-people-from-falling vision, that does get upsetting. Just like when they started adding bat nipples, bat asses, and bat credit cards to Batman.

Unless it's Smallville Then they have no problem with Clark killing 20 bad guys a year.

Yes, because Smallville is widely regarded as a great representation of Superman.

Eh, I'd rather he come across like a real, complex person having to make difficult choices than some perfect, noble icon who Always Does The Right Thing No Matter What.

Or some bland boy scout type (which he hasn't always been to begin with). Frankly I think it's about time someone tried to give him a bit of an edge again.

Those two things are completely separate from one another.

Killing Zod was in no way a difficult choice. It was the easy choice, and one the real Superman never would have made unless there was literally no other choice. (And yes, there were other choices than snapping the dude's neck.)

And considering that Superman is the noble icon of superheroes, he shouldb e the noble icon of superheroes. That's, like, his entire concept.

To be honest, I'm sick and tired of the villains almost always dying at the end of the movies, especially the DC movies. It's ridiculous, even if more "realistic." I mean, why is there even an Arkham Asylum in the Batman movies? Practically none of his villains live long enough to be put in there.
