Re: What are you reading?

I have finished Bats Sing, Mice Giggle which covered many interesting facts including cow north-south orientation which I knew nothing about.

I have now started on Day Break by Viktor Arnar Ingolfsson, narrated by Benjamin L Darcie. Murder mystery - someone is killing goose hunters in Iceland.

I read the Kindle version of this book last year. In it Viktor introduces Inspectors Birkir Hinriksson and Gunnar Mariusson, two characters I really liked. I was pleased to find out the Inspectors Birkir and Gunnar will reappear in Sun on Fire which will be released on 17 June. Audible has three of Viktor's book on sale, I bought them for $AUS1.95 each, so I thought I would listen to Day Break before i listen to the new book.

Dream Park. Why is this series a movie franchise yet? It'd be great!

Finished The Forever Engine by Frank Chadwick yesterday. I wasn't really expecting much, but it ended up being a really good Steampunk story with quite a bit of depth. I highly recommend it.

Re: What are you reading?

I've finished The Doctor and the Dinosaurs and I have mixed feelings. It was a good story with a good resolution, but it felt like a first draft. I know Resnick to be a good writer (though exclusively from his short fiction), so I'm not sure what went wrong. The dialogue was strange. To begin with, it was anachronistically modern, though that may have been a stylistic choice, but it was also repetitive. Just about every conversation between the characters seemed the same, and they constantly repeated themselves ("Well, I never thought about it that way, but I see your point."). There were a significant number of spelling and word errors, and a few little continuity glitches. On one page character A asks character B if he saw any Comanche on the way over and he answers no; on the next page character A asks character B the same question and he answers "one or two." It's like Resnick dictated the story into his hand-held device and the publisher simply transcribed and printed it without any further work being done.
