Re: Star Trek TNG Reboot coming?

Well if you look at the logic, cbs will want exploit what has worked successfully in the past for Star Trek. For the movies its Kirk and company for TV, TNG was the most popular of all the modern series. I would not surprise me if they wanted to reboot it somehow, there next best option is to just go forward (post nemesis, maybe the 25th century) and have the Enterprise-F or G with a new crew etc..

Re: Star Trek TNG Reboot coming?

I wouldn't mind a TNG reboot. While I enjoyed the J.J. Abrams movies, I do want a move back to the more dramatic storytelling of classic Trek. They could do a TNG reboot that mixes the drama of the old and the adventure of the new and have lots of story potential originating from the Abrams-verse. What if the Romulans are working behind the scenes to try manipulate the balance of power in the quadrant because they've learned of their planet's fate in the original timeline? You could have the exploration of TNG mixed with the political drama of DS9. I'd be interested in seeing how things play out in that timeline.

Re: Star Trek TNG Reboot coming?

Star Trek will come back to television eventually, it's too big of a name and too much of a potential cash cow. I think CBS or whoever winds up being in charge of a new series will not want to take the risk of doing something completely original. I think what we are most likely to see is a TOS reboot for the small screen with a new cast and no connection to the movies. A TNG reboot is also possible, since TNG had a wide cultural impact and recognition. In this era of reboots and reimagining's network execs will want a new Star Trek series to have as much day one familiarity with the audience as possible. Right now CBS doesn't seem to know what it wants to do with the TV rights it owns and is probably waiting for the current movie series to end.

Oh, I know. She showed up on TNG a year before Total Recall came out, though they were probably filmed around the same time.

Geordi's probably checking out the one in the middle.

Man, I had such a crush on her when I was a kid. She was the hottest woman on TNG

The very idea that CBS would reboot The Next Generation is obscene! How can "they" improve upon perfection? They'll never find someone with Sir Patrick Stewart's acting chops - that much is certain. It's bad enough they've already come out with revamps and redos of certain special effects and so forth in an attempt to jack up the price. Let's just allow this concept of a TNG reboot to die, mercifully ...

Same could be said with TOS for the movies

I could be mistaken but I thought a big reason TNG's effects were redone was because they had to remaster every frame of every episode for the HD of Blu-Ray. The effects wouldn't have held up. I thought everything was the same, just better quality. Unlike TOS's remaster which went all 1997-Star Wars on the effects.

Most of the effects weren't "redone". Just recomposited from the original film elements. When they couldn't find the elements, then they redid the effect. Some of the CGI was also upgraded to modern standards.

No, "redone" usually means that the effects were replaced by CGI. Recompositing from the original film elements is not "redoing" the shots.

Even if it was "redone", what difference does it make? How is "upgrading all the visuals of a series that has the exact same actors and exact same stories even remotely similar to "Rebooting" with a totally different look with different actors and such?

There's no way any reimagining of TNG would come close to the original. It would definitely be radically different.

With the recent announcement of a Stargate reboot I suppose anything is possible. But I would prefer to stay in the 23rd century.

Just hire Patrick Stewart again. He hasn't aged.
