I'm afraid not. While the films may have done better to some extent, many (if not most) women appearing in the original TV series displayed no rank insignia whatsoever, even in cases when dialogue indicated that they should.

IMO, the use of rank insignia in the nuStarfleet is one of those things that it both acknowledges but doesn't consider more than an homage to the navies of Earth's past, with not every uniform featuring them. The women's skirted uniform may even be considered a women's variant to the standard unisex design.

Please point on the gingerbread man below where J.J. Abrams touched you.

This isn't called for. Just because a person doesn't like nuTrek, it doesn't follow that he/she is claiming that "JJ Abrams raped my childhood" (or whatever that ridiculous phrase is).

When Zoe Saldana is onscreen, there are better things to look at than rank stripes. Just sayin'.

Where is Nurse Chapel's rank insignia? For that matter were is McCoy's?

Were is Helen Noel's?

If "I think JJ Abrams Star Trek is total travesty" is not a problem, then this shouldn't be, either.

I can name three women that displayed ranks in TOS other than Lieutenant Uhura 1. Lieutenant Carolyn Palamas ( who mourns for Adonias ?) 2. Lieutenant Galway (The Deadly Years) 3. Lieutenant Rahda (That Which Survives ) Bonus: Dr Anne MulHall ( Return to tomorrow) she was a Lieutenant Commander.

Since he didn't say all women had no rank insignia, what does this prove?

I thought it was funny. People need to quit acting like a couple of two-hour movies are life and death affairs.

Star Trek and interacting with Star Trek fans is suppose to be fun.

Nope. Star Trek is serious business and interacting fans is meant to be a dick-waving affair in which one establishes dominance through their encyclopedic knowledge of Trek minutiae. Like registry numbers and proper warp nacelle alignment.

Anyone who disagrees isn't a True Fan. Go have sex with your girlfriends, posers.

Charlene Masters is identified in dialogue as a Lieutenant, yet did not display the sleeve stripe for that rank. Dr. Helen Noel should be at least a Lt. Commander, but wears no rank insignia. Lt. Marla McGivers wears no rank insignia. If you look past the speaking parts and focus on the background characters, you'll see that very few of them display rank insignia.

So no. Even the most casual examination shows this not to be the case.

She should?

Pardon, but I don't remember any dialogue saying anything about her rank, just her medical credentials.
