Re: Seth Macfarlane Should Helm the Next Trek Series

I am fairly certain that Seth would not create a good Trek series. He's department is comedy.

But we haven't seen anything of his that isn't comedy. You can't decided what his department is without seeing anything other than that.

He's a writer. I'm sure he knows how to write non-comedic fiction.

Weeeelll, my take is, MacFarlane's a huge fan, and he understands the series. So I'd let him pitch it, but I shure wouldn't gaurantee a green light until I was really confident the ifdea would not just fly, but drag in a sufficient audience.

As for PineKrk v ShatKirk, really? They're both Kirk, just at different places on the line of their lives. You'd underestimate PineKirk at your peril. He just hasn't ascended into greatness yet. Also, watch Shat's film where he interviews all the captains, it's pretty interesting.

If so, that's a good reason to be optimistic about Bob Orci directing the next Star Trek movie - there's probably not a truer Star Trek fan in the business.

Blame JJ I'd say.

You proceed from a false premise, which is that everyone - or even most - Trek fans agree about what "Star Trek" ought to be. I'd bet you real money that if a random, frequent poster from TrekBBS were grabbed up by Paramount and put in charge he or she would not turn out to be someone whose ideas you loved.

Just look at the goddamned food fights on this board over every trivial aspect of the Franchise. I mean, really.

You can fairly call Orci a hundred bad things (including a whacked-out conspiracy theorist, which given what can be read here on TrekBBS seems to be an overlapping set with fans) but don't dare try to pretend for a moment that he's less into "Star Trek" and less knowledgeable about it than any of you.

You mean the STID that's rated 90% from the Audience and 87% from the Critics on Rotten Tomatoes?

You mean the STID that's rated 7.9 Stars on IMDB?

You mean the STID whose gross of more than $467 million worldwide made it the highest-grossing entry in the Star Trek franchise?

That STID?

STID is one of my favorite Trek movies. Can't wait to see what Orci does with the next one.

Hell judging by some of the stuff he used in his trek movies he's probably more knowledgeable about it than any of us.

Is this thread about Seth MacFarlane and a TV series or yet another JJ Trek debate?

I'm all behind Seth Macfarlane taking charge of Trek, you know he'd be willing to do something different and take chances with a franchise that he is a fan of, hopefully without needing to do a hard reboot or alternate reality.
