I'm intrigued by the Agent Carter series, because it's a period piece. I'm interested in good characters and good writing, not "huge" storylines. A "huge" storyline has cut the quality of SHIELD in half.
Wait, wait, hold up. You think AoS has gotten worse since Cap 2?!
Indeed, though I'm still optimistic about it.

This is just silly. As long as a show has good writing and good characters that people care about, none of what you point out is at all relevant to the quality of the show. I guess shows like Man Men or Downton Abbey or the Americans can't be good because they can't drastically re-write history? Or no reason to watch Rome or Boardwalk Empire or any other period piece that uses historical figures because we already know how their stories end?
Well said.

Didn't Coulson remind Ward that he was fluent in six languages in an early episode?

Yup. In 0-8-4...
(quotes approximate. Is that a contradiction?)

Coulson-- "Ward, you're fluent in six languages. Simmons, you have degrees in fields I can't even pronounce. Fitz, you ARE a rocket scientist. Work it out." *walks away*

Skye-- "I'm good at things too!"

You don't have to be smart to be ignorant in 6 languages.

Not necessarily, I guess, otherwise the phrase "exact quote" would be tautological. But an inexact quote is more properly called a paraphrase.

Since Cap 2 it's gone from 'Jeez, why am I sitting through more of this crap' to 'OK, I'll give it to the end of the season'.

Imho anyway...

In The Hub, when Ward and Fitz are at the bar trying to get help to sneak across the border, I think I remember Ward speaking some foreign language to the patrons of the bar.

I don't recall for sure, but ward may also have been speaking a different language when he was sneaking into the factory in Eye Spy.

He was definitely speaking Russian in that bar. It was established for some time that he speaks it and I think he mentioned recently that there was an undercover assignment in Russia that lasted for several months.

A google search says he speaks Russian, French, Italian, and Spanish (in addition to English). Don't know the other two. I don't recall him speaking French, but I remember the others (Spanish while in Cuba, Italian in TRACKS).

Re: Agents of SHIELD. Season 1 Discussion Thread

Learning a new language, learning many new languages doesn't increase your knowledge of history, especially if the people teaching you those languages, want to keep you ignorant of specific facts about history.

Ignorant doesn't mean that you are stupid.

Ignorant means that there are specific or broad facts which you are unaware of.

Stupid means that it is impossible/difficult for you to calculate or remember new information.

Ward was 16 in the Juvie flashback, so he may have been 15 when he did what he did and had a shitty trailer park life before that, so whatever accidental bubble that life was, Garret put him in an even smaller bubble once he started programming the young delinquent to love Hydra.

Locating her silhouette there where it is, makes Carter look like an eagle's vagina.
