It's not just the visuals - even though that would cause canon related outrage among "fans" - it is the made for 90's TV casting in TNG that is the issue - perhaps Stewart has the acting chops to perform as Picard in a way that would work in pace and spirit of ST2009 however the rest of the cast would instantly remind everyone of the berman era trek, a flat and episodic TV show quality to it.

It'd be nice to see the stylistic differences between eras.
It would be very sloppy to splice footage of the cast and sets of the original franchise TNG with the 2009 re-boot, it would look like 2 all together different movies stuck to each other.
