Data doesn't have a spirit, he's a toaster.

Hey bbjeg, this is a good poll idea, "what character(s) most embody the spirit of Star Trek?"
Data went through finding and defining himself, gave his all in the name of exploration, surpassed his boundaries, and sacrificed himself for loved ones. He could personify Star Trek's spirit, even though he doesn't have one.

I thought about the poll and I'll probably end up running out of space to accommodate everyone (20 choices is the highest I've gotten so far). Other than the main cast you have choices like Sarek, Shelby, or Rom that could fit that bill.

Re: Sell me on Kes.

In a story I wrote, Data got Gomez pregnant because Soong loaded him to bare with his own juices during the androids construction... The ability to procreate is a definition of life, but it also means that he is carrying millions of partially formed frosted souls in his love gun.

If only you could've been there to turn this show and guide it right! VOYAGER would've been a lot better with both Kes and Seven of Nine ... I've always thought so.

Well, it's not that outstanding. I like her more for the wrong reasons, namely Guy Gardener's nipsticles deep into her spinegina comment.

It's just as well ... I was raised not to look a Gift Horse in the mouth. And there are certainly others. Those who came, at first, to scoff ... have become True Believers!

I'd say "his work here is done" except we know that is not true.

Re: Sell me on Kes.

When Wang was almost certainly fired, and their course was set to have Kes and Seven of Nine stay aboard for the final four seasons and the highly anticipated movie franchise once the TNG foggies got too old... How long was that period of time?

A month? Two months? Three?

I'm assuming that most of that time was when the actors were only Holiday/hiatus, although the writing/producing probably happens most of the year around unlike the acting which is barely half a year...

The white board mapping out the season, and the distribution of episodes per character focus, and key supporting characters... So that's three months where the white board delineated where Kes would be getting a week to herself and where Kes was going to be someone's Tonto.

If Wang had been fired like he was supposed to have been fired, he would have died from Species 8472 infection inbetween Scorpion 1 and 2, and there would have been no need to allow Wang back on the set or pay him to work, when they could have just explained his death with exposition, or use a mannequin stage dummy prop that had been mutated beyond all recognition.

Throw in Rain Robinson and I'm sold.

Re: Sell me on Kes.

Since Braga originally conceived what became Seven as a male Borg, that could be what was lined up to replace Wang, until Berman told him to make it female. So instead of Seven of Nine's catsuit, we might have gotten some guy wearing a really big codpiece.

Re: Sell me on Kes.

The change in direction happened between Scorpions.

Jeri was cast and Wang all but had his walking papers and he knew it.

Sarah Silverman is a good +1 actor but when she's the star, I'm not a fan.
