I kept hoping someone like Malcolm from Enterprise would be caught listening to "I Hate You", the punk song from STIV.

I could see nuSpock listening to "I Hate You" eventually. He seems to be going down the path that leads to the dark side.

I'll accept a darker NuSpock if he grows a goatee first.

Never mind, I just pictured an Emo Spock and didn't like what I saw.

True enough. Who knows, maybe 300 years from now, folk music will be what the elite society listen to, or filk music.

Or even bagpipe music? Just think, I could skip ahead to the future and find music I really like!
Well, we know that bagpipe renditions of "Amazing Grace" are sometimes part of Starfleet funerals . . . .

Why did they play an earth funeral song, on bagpipes, at Spock's funeral? Was it what Spock would have wanted?

Because Saavik was too choked up to sing a traditional Vulcan dirge?

You have not experienced "Amazing Grace" until you have heard it in the original Vulcan.

It was touching. Maybe by the 23rd century Amazing Grace played on the bagpipes is the #1 funeral song played throughout the Federation.

I bet the friends of all those redshirts were aggravated.

"I didn't hear any bagpipes after engineer Johnny burst into flames defending the ship."

We don't actually know what Vulcan funerals are like. And I'm pretty sure Scotty didn't know how to play the Vulcan lyre.

Many years ago, I attended the symphony and one of the pieces played was Amazing Grace. It was played by a lone piper, illuminated by a single spotlight. It was a beautiful experience and by the end of the piece, most of the audience members were openly crying.

That song is one of the most powerful pieces of music ever written, and can have a profound effect on people, even if they're not religious or know all the words.

Given that Spock had just saved them all, the words were apropos for his funeral.

I wonder if those who want the Prime timeline back would be satisfied if a new creative team came in and did a direct sequel to TOS that pretty much contradicted the Berman-era spinoffs? I'm guessing not.

Where's this coming from? Contradicted them in what way? What sort of "direct sequel"?

If a newly done sequel to TOS contradicts TNG/DS9/VOY in major ways, then it's obviously not part of the Prime Trek universe and just another alternate universe thing.

Yeah, it wouldn't be the prime time line if it contradicted the Berman-era.

Being a spin-off of TOS, it would have every bit as legitimate a claim on being the "Prime" timeline as any of the current spin-offs have.
