A theory on why Naomi spent so much time with Seven.

Naomi's mother never got over that fact that the child she gave birth to was dead and this was a replacement. Thus she kept Naomi at arm's length.

Good theory. This could be why Harry Kim was kept at arm's length by the rest of the crew as well.

From Memory Alpha:

This episode marks the death of the "original" Harry Kim, who is replaced by a duplicate. The "real" Kim's body is apparently left to float through space. Though it may have been retrieved at some point off screen.
Hm, yeah. I've a funny feeling they didn't.

There is no such thing as "original", in this case. The ship and everyone on it was duplicated, but it's impossible to tell which is the original and which is the duplicate.

Re: A theory on why Naomi spent so much time with Seven.

They died in deadlock.

There was a phase variance in the surviving crew, different from the recorded norms for their species in this universe, but Harry and Naomi did not have that phase variance. Also the duplication process is not perfect, it can only copy matter, and not antimatter. the ship with the fully powered warp drive is real, and ship with the empty gasstank freaking out wondering who the frakk stole all their antimatter were the duplicates.

How unfortunate that it's the crew with the phase variance who had all their antimatter.

Curses!

I've been rewatching Voyager with my son, and I like it more than I remember. But this is a perfect example of one of the most maddening things the series does: something like Harry and Naomi returning from the dead happens, and the show just never follows up on it again. The next episode is just business as usual.

Or maybe both Harry Kim's are the same in every single way.

It's like that time Miles O'Brien came back from 30 hours in the future (or whatever it was), and just immediately assumed the life of his dead counterpart from right now. It isn't like little Molly O'Brien was was turning her nose up at him. "But you aren't my REAL daddy!!!"

If my co-workers got replaced by displaced versions of themselves from divergent timestreams, I probably wouldn't even be able to tell the difference.

Yeah the Quicksilver lot were perfect duplicates until they weren't.

If you can't tell that one of them is quicksilver then, they should both share the wife only one of them is really married to.

Seska looked like a Bajoran, so she must of been a real Bajoran even if she really wasn't.

I like to think Seska was a bit like those spies who take an assumed identity in another country, but get so caught up in the role-play that they sometimes forget who they really are.

She must have got up every morning a mass of contradictions.

I prefer to believe that Naomi and Harry are the only true versions on board.....everyone else is the duplicate

I like your theory though....there was definitely something not right about a low level crew member not having time for her daughter yet Seven (essentially one of the top 5 crew members) always manages to find the time for her (then again, i suppose Seven didn't need to constantly put up with her during off hours)

Re: A theory on why Naomi spent so much time with Seven.

In "Deadlock" they never explicitly say which ship was the original and which was the duplicate. I am guessing that since Ship 1 (the ship that was not initially damaged, but was ultimately detected by Vidiians and self-destructed) started the anti-proton bursts first (thus damaging Ship 2), that they were the original ship and ultimately everyone on that ship (except Harry and Naomi) died. Thus making Harry and Naomi the only original survivors from the original Voyager and everyone else is a duplicate. I always thought that the surviving ship was the duplicated one because a) the other ship started the anti-proton bursts first and b) the Vidiians could not detect the second ship. I would think that the masked ship was the duplicate since even Voyager needed to do all kinds of crazy stuff ::insert technobabble here:: in order to communicate with them.

Just my theory on Deadlock.

As for Naomi, I think she had a lot of spare time with there not being a real school on board, no other kids to play with, and her mom had duty shifts. I think at first she was afraid, yet intrigued, by Seven. As Seven developed her humanity she sought out people who were non-judgmental and outsiders, such as herself. I believe that is also why she became close to the Doctor. A child would have the same effect. A child is usually non-judgmental and in this case the child is somewhat an outsider on the ship with her being the only child for a long while. I think Naomi became more intrigued by Seven as time went on and they just ended up feeling close to one another. Then when Seven was put in charge of the Borg kids...Naomi finally had other children to interact with. So it's no surprise that she spent more and more time around the cargo bay. Not only to visit Seven, but also the other kids.

Yeah, if you read my post above, I have the same belief.

Re: A theory on why Naomi spent so much time with Seven.

The Vidians split B'Elanna into two people a year earlier.

It's their modus operandi.

This isn't an accidental space woogie, it's a weapon.

The Vidians twin a ship, take one, and let the other go.

This is how their planet is not being massdriven from orbit by the thousands of governments of all their victims.

Would they harvest the duplicates because it's more ethical, or would they harvest the originals because the meat is better?
