Why would anyone be surprised to see an actor who had been in Star Trek?
It seems that many Trek actors all but disappear after their time on the show, so the question is valid.

Of course we have that whole other thread about in the TOS forum about Trek actors in other shows, with vids and caps. Check it out.

Connor Trineer had a juicy guest spot on NCIS, which wasn't surprising, but in that same episode Tim Russ had a very small, almost inconsequential role that anyone could have done which lasted about 30 seconds. He probably got a mortgage payment out of it.

Or they go bananas and make a public spectacle of themselves, as in the case of Avery Brooks...

Or you might just be surprised because you found out that one of them did something noteworthy that you'd never heard about, such as the case with Nimoy in M:I for me.

And here's an example that just came up in a thread in another forum--Nimoy in a mid-1980s Bangles video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zj7OJeyhq2Q

Wow, I used to have MTV on 24 hours a day when I was a teenager, and I do remember this song, but not the video. I certainly would have remembered it for Nimoy's appearance, if nothing else. Of course, I was more of a Go-Go's fan.

I was (pleasantly) surprised to see Kelsey Grammer (better known as Dr. Frasier Crane) appear in a Next Generation episode

I only discovered recently the gorgeous Marianna Hill (well known to TOS fans as Dr. Noel in Dagger of the Mind) played Fredo's drunk wife at the party in Godfather 2.

I would guess I have watched both Dagger of the Mind and Godfather 2 both fifty times each and never noticed

I think it's not that we're surprised to see them at all, it's that we're surprised and pleased to see them in other things.

I remember waaay back when Leonard Nimoy was on The Captain & Tennille: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KVAGpy0zNwE

Spot on, Timewalker. I meant it in the sense of you didn't know they were in a movie/tv show you were watching, and then suddenly you spot a familiar Trek actor and say "Hey, it's that guy/gal!"

Marina Sirtis surprised me by showing up in an episode of Sherlock Holmes starring Jeremy Brett.
