A great title track from an awesome album, The Nightfly.

Then Laurie Anderson is great quirky music, Mister Heartbreak

And Kate Bush to round out the decade with, The Sensual World

I like this one from Kate Bush. It says a lot about the internet even though it was released in 1989. The video however is recent and features Robbie Coltrane.

Always makes me think of Kira and Odo - a YouTube video compilation thing was done to that song. It's a good song too.

I was totally into hair-metal back in the 80's.

Re: 80's music

I think my favorite 80's hairmetal band (who are actually still together today, IIRC) is Helix. Pure awesomeness.

Re: 80's music

No Rest for the Wicked is the only Helix album I own or have ever heard. The guy on the cover has always reminded me of RDJ.

I loved hair metal when I was a kid. Hell, I still love it: Dokken, Great White, Poison, Skid Row, Ratt ... all mainstays on my iPod.

There were also the one-hit-wonder hair bands:

And classic rock bands trying to reinvent themselves as hair bands:

80s music, esp. tracks with a prominent synth/electronic component, can awesome. If I had to pick a single track - and video - to represent 80s pop, I'd probably choose this:

Neon wetsuits, dolphins and colourful bows on little black dresses...

A long while back I posted tons of favourite 80s songs in an older thread. On top of all that, I was reminded of this recently:

(Yes, they did borrow the theme from the finale of Sibelius's 5th symphony. )

Reminds me of Winona Ryder. And she has a Trek connection. She played a communications officer in Star Trek IV.
