And here I thought this was finally my chance to say in before the lock.

... AGREED!!! The sentiment is a very good and quite correct one:

Perhaps it's preaching to the choir, more or less, but I can't help but love this show and these characters and getting the chance to say so is the greatest feeling in the whole world:

STAR TREK is cool...!!!

Re: seriously, just how cool is star trek!!!

I grew up thinking Star Trek was cool. Unfortunately alot of my peers did not agree with me! Nowadays I still think Star Trek is cool, I've made a success of my life and "geek" is now "chic". Alot of my school peers are in prison or worse. Who had the last laugh.

In a rating between Awful and Awesome, I'd give Star Trek a Magnificent.

I liked Star Trek before Star Trek was cool.

I loved the episode where they had a faser in the hollow deck! And I heard that they went to an engine earring in one episode!

The Next Generation is the most deeply satisfying STAR TREK series, ever! I used to get so annoyed that TNG wasn't the first - and only - series Gene Roddenberry ever created. But now - particularly, now - I see the beauty of his plan! Because TOS is the original, it is the only one that will be reinvented, rebooted and regurgitated ... whilst my beloved TNG shall remain unmolested and prestine, forever and ever. To have and to hold ... til death, do we part. Brilliant!!!

Re: seriously, just how cool is star trek!!!

Around the turn of the century, it seemed fashionable for porn films to play on real movie titles, such as:
Forest Hump
Saving Ryan's Privates
and 2001: A Sex Odyssey
For a moment, there, I had presumed that the "TNG porno" of which you speak fell in line with this trend. You can well imagine my surprise to find out that no, they had indeed made every effort to reproduce the TNG environment, on a limited budget and used that environment to spice up the pornography scenes. None of this overly concerned me, but what did raise an eyebrow was their attempt to present this as a Fan Film by removing the pornography. It was a bold move ... but in the end, proved itself to be absolutely tasteless and vulgar. Is nothing scared to those devils?
