I just thought it was a Tex Avery-style exercise in seeing how far something could be extended and still keep the audience engaged. Also (unlike the "How it should have ended" clips) to do it without calling attention to the gag in advance.

Personally I felt they over-did the "ones" a tad, but still funny.

Also (unlike the "How it should have ended" clips) to do it without calling attention to the gag in advance.
Unfortunate that Kirk and Spock didn't see that baby Gorn coming.

Well I think, given the situation, Khan's behaviour is disorientating and confusing and ultimately absurd, thus generating almost nervous laughter at the meaninglessness of existence, ... or something.
