Re: Trip Asking for Prime Rib

It's awful but if we end up with totally lab grown flesh I will have to in good conscience abstain from eating real animals who suffered and died for my plate and only eat that. I'll be pretty pissed off at science forcing my ethical subroutines to kick in though.

It always boggled me how animals can get labelled with the word "humane" regarding their treatment, given the first give letters of that word. Furthermore how I can get more jailtime for kicking my neighbor's dog than I could his daughter with our justice system these days.

I suppose some will think this is cruel of me but I don't think an animal's life is on par with a human one. That doesn't mean I approve of violence towards animals but I don't get how people think it's worse than violence against other humans.

As for the whole process of synthetic meat.... I dunno, kinda grosses me out to be honest. It'll be years before a guy like me can try it though, so we'll see then. If that can provide an equal substitute then well... that would make everyone happy I suppose.

I think you might find that a relatively high fraction of the people who eat vegetarian (or are trying to) are also generally reluctant to eat human flesh.

It's not about the species we are dealing with, rather it's about believing that what makes us human is that we strive to treat all life forms with care and respect.

I AM SO FUCKING STAR TREK

Wow... how clever... equating eating meat with cannibalism. You may equate your sentience with a cow or pig... but I have a higher regard for humanity.

Eating bacon while taking a piss? Well they say bacon makes everything better.

Someone needs to make a bacon scented air freshener.

Oh never mind. It looks like they do.

You can be sure that food will continue to be produced in the most profitable way possible.

Whether anyone will be eating 'real' food is another question.

Hell, a lot of the stuff we eat today wouldn't have been considered "real" food a couple of centuries ago.

I mean, what would folks from the American Revolutionary period think of Cheez Whiz?

If you think about it, in the future hopefully this politically correct ridiculousness that there the slightest thing wrong with the consumption of meat will be a thing of the distant past. That such thoughts once existed will be viewed with contempt, ridicule and mockery.

Prime rib comes from an cow, a beast of the fields, and not from a "junior human being."

Lovely sentiment and one I share. I don't see it coming anytime soon though. PC dick waving is the "cool" thing these days to advance your own beliefs by ridiculing everyone who thinks differently. At least a tyrant is honest in that he wants to force you to change your beliefs. The way things are now people want to use that same contempt, ridicule and mockery to force people to change their views all under the banner of freedom of thought, act and ideas.

Re: Trip Asking for Prime Rib

I'm not a vegetarian (I try to be as omnivorous as possible) but I do think when technology makes just as good tasting meat that doesn't involve killing an animal people will be more inclined to see killing animals as a cruel luxury.
