And Nixon was also in Watchmen...he must be a real genre fan.

Regarding Wolverine as the time traveler...dramatically, it makes a lot more sense. Kitty simply wasn't established enough as a character in the previous films to give that kind of spotlight to. The general audience wouldn't even recognize her.

^More to the point, she doesn't have the same degree of history and connection with Xavier as Jackman's Logan for the role reversal to have this degree of resonance.

OK, I totally missed that 70's Logan is still rocking the bone claws!
I can't see it, but it would have to be bone claws in 1973, if ( as implied ) the bulk of Origins takes place after 1973.

It's been a while since I last saw Origins, but even then I could never get the exact timeline straight. All I remember is that Stryker first recruited them during or immediately after Vietnam. So unless I'm forgetting something this is either while he's still with the team, or just after he quits.

By-the-by, another reason why Logan in the better choice as the Sam Beckett of this movie: this is a way for him to finally regain his old memories. I mean if he's "leaping" into his younger bone-claw era body then it should have an undamaged brain and all of his old life memories.

Mind you, didn't he already remember some of it? In 'The Wolverine' he seemed to remember saving that bloke he saved at Nagasaki (or was it Hiroshima?)

I thought that happened post Origins, though now that I think of it that would make Gambit far too old.

Well yeah, remember that whole war montage at the beginning--also known as the only cool bit in that movie? IIRC it went: American Revolution > American Civil War > WWI trenches > WWII Normandy landings > Vietnam.

Of course that raises a whole bunch of other questions, like how does someone in Operation Overlord end up as a POW on Japanese soil? Wasn't he and his half-brother supposedly inseparable during this period? And my personal favourite: isn't Wolverine supposed to be Canadian?

I thought that teaser trailer served to tease quite well. I know Singer said they were still working on the f/x sequences, hence no Sentinels but I was throughly impressed with the dramatic beats we were given. The story looks to have the heart and depth it should have to appeal to all audiences. Not just the flash, bang popcorn action summer crowd. Which I enjoy at times also but this looks to have a healthy mix.

^That does raise questions. I guess Wolverine can't remember his past... until the plot needs him to?

Swiss cheese memory!

(Well, if it worked for another mind-time-traveling hero...)

D Day was June 1944, the bombs were dropped in August 1945.

The trailer is ok and I'm not as bowled over by it as some seem to be.

Yeah, I know. I was just curious how a guy in the 29th infantry ends up half a world away from his outfit. I mean wasn't most of the ground war in the Pacific theatre done by the US Marines?

Yeah, I'm no expert, but I get the impression that there wasn't a lot of theater-switching going on in that war.

Wolverine appears in 187 comics a month. Being in two different theaters of war is nothing.
