That's a nice photo, ToA. It also reminds me that I need to order the second book.....and I may just as well have a look at the Tribble, too.

I got a gift card for my birthday last week, and used it for STVAN: What Judgements Come, STTNG: Cold Equations: The Persistance of Memory. I also got the second hunger games book Catching Fire.

Picked up the new version of Federation: The First 150 Years from Barnes and Noble yesterday. Has a nice solid textbook feel to it.

Re: Latest acquisition!

Found this at Goodwill the other night and am still super excited about it:

It's a computer game! That's a 5.25" floppy disk! Copyright 1985. "Requires an Apple II+, IIe, or IIc with 64K RAM and one disk drive. Uses DOS 3.3." Original price: $39.95. Aside from a couple marks from a black marker over the ISBN & UPC numbers on the back (wondering why? why not mark thru the UPC? anyway...), it's in great condition. Doesn't look like it was even opened. Unfortunately, one of the manuals that is in a plastic pocket inside seems to have fused to the plastic. Much as I want to examine it, I'm afraid of damaging it trying to get it out.

In fact, I KNOW it's never been played, because on closer examination, the plastic pocket holding the disk would have had to be cut to get the disk out. No way I'm breaking that seal now! LOL
I mean, seriously! SO SHINY!!!

^Heck, I've still got my copy of The Kobayashi Alternative on a shelf about a meter away from where I'm sitting as I type this. Even though I haven't had a computer it was playable on for quite a few years, and was never any good at playing it anyway.

Adding a few thumbnails of pictures of pages inside. It's really got some nifty illustrations. The first one is about how full Vulcans shouldn't take the audio/sleep learning version of the test "due to the presence of species-idiosyncractic emotional reactions". Hee.

And yeah, part of me is sad that I don't have anything to try playing it on, but I'm not really a gamer anyway and would rather not open it now, since it's already survived this long unopened.

If you want a taste of the game, read Diane Duane's novel, "Doctor's Orders". Planet Flyspeck, in that book, is populated with several of the unique alien species she originally created for the game.

I'm told that someone has supposedly converted the game into a playable website somewhere.

I have read it, and now I really wish I could try it. I didn't notice that Diane Duane was involved. She's one if my all-time favorite authors.

Diane wrote the text of the text adventure. All her original Starfleet characters are featured, including transporter technician Theresa Renner, named for a former roommate of Diane's, IIRC.

Duane Trek by Therin of Andor, on Flickr

Above: Naraht the horta; Harb Tanzer, Chief of Recreation; Nurse Lia Burke; linguist JanÝce Kerasus; and Doctor Tom Krejci (DC Comics' TOS Series I: the "Double Blind" two-parter, #24-25, and "The Last Word", #28). Harb's hair is miscoloured; it should be silver/white.

Other Duane novel/game characters who get mentioned by name in "The Last Word" comic include Athende (the tentacled Sulamid), and Avoca.

These seem to be representations of the game?

Bust of Dr Ree and new Star Trek books by Therin of Andor, on Flickr

Received today, and photographed with my recent purchase of a Komodo Dragon bust (perfect for that Dr Ree customized statue - all he needs is a uniform): the "Star Trek" title in the "Fan Phenomena" series of essays (nine in this edition), edited by Bruce E. Drushel; and the giant-sized hardcover edition of "The Art of Juan Ortiz", compiling his 80 spectacular retro posters for "The Cage" and TOS episodes.

Retro screening of Star Trek II by Therin of Andor, on Flickr

I purchased the bust across the road from a retro screening of "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan", in Sydney, Australia, on Monday night. Very cool to see it on the big screen again, and weird to be chatting to new, young "Star Trek Into Darkness" fans, who were seeing ST II for the first time - and realising they weren't even born when we were first gallivanting around in Starfleet uniforms.

Re: Latest acquisition!

Pardon several posts in a row, but no one else has added anything for a while. I just received the 2014 calendar for "Into Darkness" (from Universe/Rizzoli) and the 16-month engagement diary, which features art selections from the above-mentioned "The Art of Juan Ortiz". It is amusing to see an ad inside for the 2015 engagement diary. 2015 already? How to make time fly!

Over in the Topps' gum cards hardcover thread - http://www.trekbbs.com/showpost.php?...31&postcount=3 - I posted some pics of the contents (the book arrived Down Under this week) but I remembered that I once had my own collection featured in an Australian kids' book:

This photo appears in Natalie Jane Prior's book, "Chewing gum: how it fed the gods, went into space and helped win the war". Part of her "Ubiquitous Things" series (2000).

Re: Latest acquisition!

Alright, no pictures from me, but I've gotten some things in the last few weeks that merit inclusion:

-Star Trek: The Fall: The Crimson Shadow by Una McCormack
-Star Trek: The Fall: Revelation and Dustby David R. George III
-The 2014 Ships of the Line Wall Calendar
-a lot of Q books from eBay, including Greg Cox's trilogy, Peter David's Q-Squared and Q-in-Law, and my second copy of Q & A
-the Complete Deep Space Nine Soundtrack from La-La-Land Records (which is absolutely and totally awesome)

Therin, how large is the Ortiz calendar? It looks really nice!

It's a coil-bound book, 6.5 x 9 inches x 1 week to a page.

Re: Latest acquisition!

I just acquired the work-related book Tribal SQL, and the Homeland prequel novel Carrie's Run. They're both going to have to wait, though, as A Ceremony of Losses is due to download in a few days, and I'm still finishing up the last book in the Terok Nor trilogy.
