Re: American Horror Story - Coven

This was my first episode of the series and I wasn't very impressed. It just felt very CW with all the bitchy teenage witches having sex. I thought this was supposed to be a "horror story".

So, based on my internet ramblings, am I to understand that they use the same group of actors in all three seasons but give them different characters, so each season has absolutely no connection to the others?

Re: American Horror Story - Coven

Pretty much. It's an anthology series, so each season is different. Unlike other TV shows, you don't have to watch previous seasons to understand what's currently going on. I personally enjoyed Season 2 (Asylum), with great performances by Zachary Quinto, James Cromwell, and of course, regulars Jessica Lange and Sarah Paulson.

The recurring/regular cast members, in addition to Lange and Paulson, are Evan Peters, Lily Rabe, Taissa Farmiga, Denis O'Hare, Jamie Brewer, and Frances Conroy.

New this season: Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, Emma Roberts, Gabourey Sidibe, Patty Lupone.

Previous seasons: Connie Britton, Dylan McDermott, Zachary Quinto, James Cromwell, Lizzy Brochere, Joseph Fiennes, Chloe Sevigny.

They had three teenage sex scenes, two of which were rape, I don't think that's very CW. This episode felt different than the previous seasons, much more lighthearted and funny but I assume that will change soon, the season's just getting started.

Yes, every season is completely self contained. The first season was pretty good, but the second season (Asylum) blew me away, it was fantastic from start to finish.

Rule #1: Never Roofie a witch!

I liked it. I loved the first two series, so I am hopeful.

Good stuff.

15 minutes into it, and I'm like, ”Wow, bravo, Jessica Lange!” Fiona Goode is such a funny witty witch that this show would be lost without her. Glad to see Lily Rabe's character resurrected.

I am liking this season much more that last which was a slow burn. This year we are right into the action and there is a good feel to it. Hopefully this will continue. I expect there will be an awesome witch battle at some point and I cannot wait for that.

I just couldn't continue watching last season. This season? Fantastic!

Jessica Lange will be nominated again. While I don't want Bates' LaLaurie character to change a lot, I hope she'll get some good lines to deliver. Some actresses can deliver sarcasm soooo well.

Yeah, I loved this episode. It will interesting to see what they do with Lalaurie. Jessica Lange is awesome. The girl in the swamp who killed the guys with the Alligators and is now protecting the Frankenstein guy is the girl was burned at the stake in the last episode, right?

Yeah, I believe that's Misty Day, right?

I just love Jessica Lange. This series revitalized her career, and in the same token, she has brought much prestige to this show by owning every role she plays.

"Maybe in another hundred years, you'll have two shithole salons."

Her lines and deliveries are priceless!

Jessica Lange just makes this show. I doubt that the show would be half as good if she weren't in it.

Well, she looks the same, has the same powers and Zoe flat out says "You are Misty Day!" after she reveals she was burned alive.

I loved the second episode but I really can't stand looking at Gabourey Sidibe, it makes me uncomfortable. She's so unbelievably fat, she could easily die before she's 40 if she doesn't lose weight.

Kathy Bates' and Angela Basset's characters are both awesome and I can't decide who's worse.

Zoe is a moron, the police shows up and she starts screaming "We're all witches!!!" after five seconds? If she turns out to be the next sovereign witchkind is screwed.

Zoe really is a moron, and I do hope she's not the next sovereign.

I loved Fiona and Lalaurie's interactions. Their weird little bond at the end of the episode was cute. And good lord, Angela Bassett is ever-amazing and beautiful.

I think Cordelia's black magic efforts to get pregnant are going to backfire, bigtime. And FrankenKyle, I wonder if he'll regain his personality at all? Misty is going to be completely batshit crazy, incidentally. I'm sure of it.

Re: American Horror Story - Coven

Great second episode!

The baby-making scene...that's just how our daughter was conceived...

Sewing her boyfriend back to life...I'm sure that will work out well. I'm not sure they thought that all the way through...

I think Kathy Bates is going to be a great addition. When she went to hit the girl on the head, I thought she was going to knock herself out.

Jessica Lange is something else. What is she like 65 or something? Man...

Yeah, that was my one issue. I know she was freaked out, but could you possibly be any more stupid?
