Its like Castrovalva that opened with Tom Baker regenerating - tahts not a regeneration story, is it?

So even without having seen Tenth Planet and Planet of the Spiders, I'm going with that still.
Of course Castrovalva is a regeneration story. It's essentially the final third of a 3-part story arc that begins with The Keeper of Traken (the return of the Master), continues in Logopolis (the Fourth Doctor falls from the radio telescope and has to regenerate), and the story picks up less than a minute later in Castrovalva, while the regeneration still hasn't finished (it takes the Fifth Doctor most of that story to settle in to his new body and psyche).

I'm sure that Planet of the Spiders was an emotional story for the fans who were used to Jon Pertwee as the Doctor. After all, up to that time he was the longest-running Doctor (5 years). My first experience of Doctor Who was the Tom Baker era, and when it came time bid him goodbye in Logopolis, I cried through the whole thing.

My choice for the worst, though, is also the Rani story.

Re: Least Favourite Regeneration Story

I'd have to say Time and the Rani, mainly because the regeneration is triggered by just having the Doctor bounce around the console room a few times. He's been hurt worse than that without regenerating, hasn't he?

Easily Time and the Rani. Terrible story. After that I'm not sure. Maybe Tenth Planet? Not a bad episode but not up to the caliber of the others (although I've not seen Planet of Spiders nor The End of Time, oddly enough).
We've met before, haven't we?

Easiest choice in ages: Time and the Rani. Also an easy choice for Least Favourite Story full stop (no, let's be fair. Silver Nemesis runs it close...)
I like "Silver Nemesis." Sylvester McCoy had some real dogs during his tenure but "Silver Nemesis" hangs together fairly well. It's not great but it's a decent outing. (And I suspect it would be far better regarded had it not come out so close to the very similar & much better "Remembrance of the Daleks.")

As for my least favorite regeneration story, it's hard for me to pick. The 1996 movie is pretty terrible, despite the fact that Paul McGann is wonderful in it. IIRC, "Time & the Rani" was pretty lame but I only ever saw it once. There are some good bits to "The End of Time" but it's just so overblown that I still might pick it.
