Large scale battles in future Trek

A large scale land battle would be fresh and interesting to see. I remembering reading TOS Invasion Book 1 that had a land battle with Kirk and his crew on the ground against the Klingons. Would be cool to see onscreen. Big space battles, hell yeah. Why not? These films have the budget to do that now. We might as well. Again it something not done in Trek movies before besides a brief battle in FC. People say it's more of a Star Wars thing but these nu Trek movies are more star warsy than any before.

 

It would be nice to see a Star Trek film put its movie budget to good use. I love interstellar politics being debated over a long table as much as the next guy, but let's leave that for the TV shows. Bring on the Lord of the Rings battles.

 

Star Trek... on land? It doesn't sound right.

 

Star is another word for planet. Planet Trek. What do planets have lots of? Land. Land Trek. What is another word for Trek? Footslog. The definition of which is "to march over a long distance". Land Footslog.

The definition of Star Trek is "Land to march over a long distance". How could that sound any less right?

 

It would be cool to see one of the many empires in Trek actually expand their empire by conquering another race's planet and civilization. It seems that's what an interstellar empire would do -- physically conquer worlds and peoples by force to expand their imperial outreach.

The Klingons launching a large-scale planetary invasion of some outmatched civilization would be sweet.

It could come early in the film, provide them with some badassery, and show the Klings in glorious expansionist victory on-screen. That would help build up the anticipation for the later showdown with Our Heroes.

It wouldn't even have to be that long, but it could be big.
