Hey! What can I say?

I loved the new Trek movie! I've seen it a bunch of times. Give it a solid A. Great fun! Nice nod to Classic Trek.

So it's been a while since I've been on the boards... What have I missed?
We argued about ship sizes a lot and have now established the pattern of repetitive complaints that will tide us over until the next film in 2016.

I've been taking some time and reading through some of this stuff. Whoa! Some crazy fun arguments. Seems like a few Trek fans here didn;t like the new movie all that much. Here I thought it was just some crazy nonsense I read in some news articles to drum up website hits. Too bad.

Seems like a lot of new faces on the boarfd. That's good. Or is it that I came back just in time for Halloween?

Can't wait for '16. Count me present for opening night.

Seemed to be quite a few new people showing up to get in on the discussion about the Blu-Ray/DVD release, but I don't think I'd rule out the Halloween effect completely.

Re: STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS - Grading & Discussion [SPOILERS]

I give it a 6/10. Big improvement from the last film, and it actually felt like Star Trek, but there's still a lot of stupid and the whole thing with Khan felt tacked in. Where the 2009 film is something I would have started all over again from scratch, with STID I can see what needed to be fixed to really make it work better.

Just hit me - I wonder why Khan and his people weren't deposited on a planet of their own at the end of STID, like they were in "Space Seed".

Spock Prime probably advised them not to.

Not sure if that works as a joke or as something believable in the Abramsuniverse.

Probably easier to keep an eye on superhuman popsicles.

^ But it would be easier for somebody to let them loose from the warehouse where they are stored. If Ceti Alpha V had worked out as it should have (in TOS/ST II), no one would have ever had to deal with Khan's people ever again. They'd have been totally cut off.

Then place warning beacons in orbit so they won't.

I don't doubt the Klingons or Romulans or some other space-faring group would have no issue setting them free so they could be a thorn in the Federation's side.

But there's the rub. It wouldn't just be the Federation's side necessarily. It's a genie out of the bottle thing isn't it, so they might show some common sense for once. Well, unless they figure they could "control" them of course.

Re: STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS - Grading & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Make sure the planet is in Federation space, then.

In any case, it's like I just said: it would be much easier for somebody to wake them up from deep freeze in that warehouse and release them, than it would for the Klingons or Romulans to stumble across some uncharted, lifeless planet in Federation territory.

It's almost like they're planning a sequel, or something

That's never stopped anyone before! I'll point to Kruge and the Genesis planet as exhibit A.
