Didn't some of the STiD prequel comics deal with the crew of the nuEnterprise undergoing some of the adventures from classic Trek episodes during the year between ST09 and STiD? Maybe that was one of their missions too.

I've got the first dozen or so issues and don't remember them dealing with Errand of Mercy.

Poking around the interwebs, it doesn't look like they did a remake.

Re: concept art and set photos!

I was just beginning to do something like that. I was still at the zooming-in and oooohing and aaaahing stage

There is a Federation "Trans Warp Network" with nodes that penetrate deep within the Klingon Empire. Is this a transwarp communication array, a transwarp beaming array, or does it indicate some kind of speed boosting network for the ships?
I thought communications, maybe explaining Kirk and Scotty's phone call, but then I saw that some of the branches of the trans-warp network are labelled "corridor [number]" which leads me to think they're for ships to traverse, "Descent"-style. I wish I could read the bracketed smallprint under "Trans warp network"

Good call on "wormhole research" being a follow-up on the Narada or Spock's arrivals.

^ You should still do it. I always like your infographics, and you might pick up on stuff I missed.

No, I just meant maybe that was another mission they went on, not necessarily that it was one of the missions featured in the comics.

Re: concept art and set photos!

I dug out my copy of Mr. Scott's Guide to the Enterprise, and sure enough, page 14 is the source of the "diburnium-osmium levels" and percentage on the "shield strength" graphic:

...in this new technology, a coil of diburnium-osmium alloy [a substance created by the lost Kalandan race; discovered on Stardate 5979.2 by the Enterprise crew and recorded by Mr. Spock] was placed within a reinforced titanium/transparent aluminum mount, scanned at the subatomic level, then replicated and prjected as energy at an adjustable point beyond the vessel's outer hull. This energy layer, acting as a solid, in effect became another layer of metal on the ship's exterior. Insulated from the true hull by a small space, the invisible shield was designed to replenish it's "molecular" structure continually for as long as souce energy was available.

Add "That Which Survives" to the list of stuff which has already happened in the Abramsverse.

I pulled some screencaps and marked some of the points of interest.

- The Vulcan refugees have several colony worlds and go by the name "The Confederacy of Surak."
- The Organians seem to be visiting in either a ship or shuttle.
- The Menk appear to have an embassy, but the Valakians may have died out.
- The Risan colony/embassy on Earth in SF is known as the "Risa Hedony," which is pretty funny.
- There are three new ships in spacedock that we haven't seen before. A large single-hulled ship of the Voyager/Nova variety, a medium ship that looks like a smaller half-sized Enterprise (hey, there's one for the small Enterprise crowd), and a very small spherical or tiny saucered ship with two nacelles.
- Weather might be free forming instead of controlled.
- There appears to be a lot of social unrest and fights between cultures in this Federation, including in Andoria.
- There is a Federation "Trans Warp Network" with nodes that penetrate deep within the Klingon Empire. Is this a transwarp communication array, a transwarp beaming array, or does it indicate some kind of speed boosting network for the ships?
- There is wormhole research going on near the Federation/Klingon Neutral Zone. Is this where Nero and the Narada entered this timeframe? The Narada and its crew was captured by Klingons after being disabled by the Kelvin.
- Coridan, Galorndan Core, Sherman's Planet, the Organian Peace Treaty (disputed), and a newly discovered(?) Khitomer are mentioned.

Here are marked and unmarked versions of the screencaps (click to enlarge):

Thanks Locutus.
Some unmarked screencaps I made:

These computer graphics are just plain beautiful. Probably the most functional we've ever seen in Trek.

I do love them, but I wish Trek's were a little more unique. The graphics in Star Trek, Iron Man/Avengers, Minority Report, Oblivion, Prometheus, The Dark Knight and Skyfall all look very very similar. I think most if not all are the work of OOOii, a company dedicated exclusively to creating cool looking futuristic UI's.

Well, there's the comfort of knowing that OOOii isn't alone in competing for that kind of work in Earth's entertainment industry.

And funny that with all those companies so much of the work looks interchangeable.

That said, I know people at the last company (Westernized).

Re: concept art and set photos!

I suspect that it's an incomplete list, covering anglophone North America to the exclusion of all else for the moment. It'll be interesting to see what other countries' firms have done in this area.

Would the majority of people doing work in the field happen to have background in common? All graduates of the same design programs at CalArts, or to some degree imitating/inspired by real-world interface designs which were a product of something similar?
