And after this I quit taking snaps of them:

But by then it had crawled very close to bed-time anyway.

Re: Attention Vinyl-gang!

Compared to my one, your record player is bordering SciFi! Mine still has tubes, no transistors, and a second needle for shellack records and it can play at 4 different speeds: 76 (shellack records from 1890 to WW2), 45 (singles since 1949), 33 1/3 (vinyl LPs and shellacks pressed after 1945) and 16 rpm (certain shellack records and early vinyl singles from the 50s)

that arm in the middle is useful: you insert a slender metal bolt in the opening in the middle of the player and stack up to 5 singles or LPs on it. The arm holds the tower in place. When a record is finished, the next one will be released by a clever mechanism and the pick-up automatically gets set back to start position again. Handy when you're having a party. =)

Re: Attention Vinyl-gang!

^Beautiful machine you have there Rhubarb

I'm currently using the one dad gave me when he decided to go all digital:

Sharp Optonica from late seventies/early eighties (but that's just me guessing)

Before that I moved around a lot and had therefore invested in this model:

Sharp VZ-2500 w. BSLT record player.
(Both Sides play - Linear Tracking

ETA: right now I've put on this:

The World is [Wide / Wonderous / Strange]
by the then ONLY alternative to our ONE TV-channel.

Re: Attention Vinyl-gang!

stylish players! They look very good! The second pic reminds me a little of the first generation computers with the magnetic tape spools.

My player is from the early 60s. I pinched it when my parents got a new one and intended to throw this one away. I have a very small modern one (well, comperatively modern - it's 30 years old) but that one needs to be taken apart occasionally - it runs a bit too slow. I guess it needs a thorough cleaning and perhaps re-soldering of one or two contacts. I'll have a look at it tomorrow, perhaps, if the forecast is right and it does rain.

When I first brought it home I had to take it apart and remove a great deal of dog-hairs from the mechanical parts inside

I think it could do with a cleaning again: the speed fine-adjustment sticks a bit

Re: Attention Vinyl-gang!

Hmm, dog hairs are unlikely, but almonds and rolled oats are a definite possibility. My late pet rats ruined my old fax machine by filling every opening with peas...
My old appartment was a bit moist - some contacts might be corroded and there's propably a lot of dust inside as well. I've never opened it. Yet.

Re: Attention Vinyl-gang!

^That is such a funny story! Sorry, but I cant help laughing at the little critters

I used to have a (late model) VHS-cassette deck, I took it with me several times each week (I was the guy with the good machine). All these times, plugging and un-plugging SCART-cables, ended up with me having to re-solder the SCART-plug connections.

Back in them days you could actually do some repairs on media players right in your home

Now listening to:

tv-2: A Nice Thursay.

Ah, I remember playing stacks of wax back in the 60s. The model we had was like a piece of furniture. If somebody from the 21st century looked at it, they'd probably think it was a cabinet or a hope chest at first.

Re: Attention Vinyl-gang!

This isn't the exact model-- I have no idea what the exact model was-- but it's the same general idea:

Re: Attention Vinyl-gang!

cool! My one is the portable version. You can clip the speakers to the player and carry it around like a suitcase (it has the same size and weight as one for a 2 week vacation )
