Re: Never seen TOS scenes (revisit)...

I never knew Russell Johnson wanted to do Star Trek. I wish that had happened.

And Warped9, these are great of course.

Oh, you need to put Russell Johnson from Gilligan's Island in there somewhere. He wanted to do a Star Trek and never got a chance.

And my two wish-they-hads are Leslie Nielsen as some crazy Starfleet officer ala Garth or Ron Tracey, and Ed Asner as a Klingon.
Ed Asner would have been an awesome Klingon! And imagine an exchange between The Professor and Spock..

I consider Forbidden Planet to be the prototype for Trek (whether intentional or not), and JJ Adams is certainly the spiritual ancestor of Captain Kirk, so Leslie Nielsen would have been right at home in a TOS episode.

Re: Never seen TOS scenes (revisit)...

Johnson had a history with sci-fi, he would have been a natural. An episode of Adventures of Superman, It Came from Outer Space, This Island Earth, Attack of the Crab Monsters, The Space Children, 2 Twilight Zones dealing with time travel, an Outer Limits episode (Specimen: Unknown, with plants similar to those in "This Side of Paradise"), and an episode from The Invaders.

I have the Superman episode. Maybe I should start checking the local used video store to find more of his stuff, he did a lot of westerns too. He was about ready to give up on acting with he got Gilligan, he was nearing 40.

This time around Prime Universe Kelvin elements could be introduced to this as well.

^^I don't think so.

The pre TOS cruiser has a NX-01 feel to it.,

Notice the FP Krell-style archway in the top pic, too, which almost makes more sense with this reimagined non-humanoid Talosian standing in front of it.

Re: Never seen TOS scenes (revisit)...

Roddenberry's original concept for the Talosians was as "crab creatures". In February 1964, The Outer Limits did an episode called "The Invisibles", with alien creatures resembling crabs that were forcibly placed on men's backs to turn them into mind-controlled slaves. I've always suspected he might have been thinking of using those same creature models for The Cage.

The crab creature:

There was a rather intense scene in The Invisibles where actor Don Gordon (another good actor who really should have done Star Trek) was being subjected to the procedure. I remember one publication used a still of this scene and misidentified Gordon as Burt Reynolds, who isn't even in the series.

I always liked Outer Limits' monsters over Trek's aliens.

Looking at that pic I should have added Lieutenant or Lt. Commander stripes to her sleeve.

I think it would have been cool if Barbara Bain, Martin Landau and/or Greg Morris could have guest starred on TOS particularly given they were filming Mission: Impossible right next door.

Now that's where the Ceti Eel idea came from? And the "Keeper" in BABYLON 5? Fascinating!

And of course, fantastic and passionate work you present here, Warped9!

I don't want to imagine how much time you spent on researching usable materials.

When doing imaginary "never seen" scenes---particularly those featuring people---I try to use individuals who were actually around at the time. Having grown up in the '60s I recall quite a bit of the shows and films that were out then. And, of course, I have some shows and films from that era on DVD which often helps when I need a screen grab. The image of Barbara Bain for instance is from a first season Mission: Impossible episode.
The aliens in the Pike era scenes are from The Outer Limits.

Sometimes I get hit with an inspiration, but often enough I envision something myself and then I have a reasonably good idea of where to find what I need.

Sometimes a suggestion or a reference spurs me. For instance I understand that Martin Laundau was once considered for the role of Spock. So now I'm thinking of Landau guest starring as a Vulcan during TOS' run. Someone upthread mentioned Ed Asner as a Klingon---I'd never thought of that---and it's an interesting suggestion so I'll look into it.

Other personages I'm thinking about:
James Franciscus
Greg Morris
Lee Remick
Lee Marvin
Honor Blackman (I did one of her previously, but like some images I've done before I'd like to revisit it and do it better)

The challenge when inserting people into a scene is not only getting people sized proportionately correct but also matching postures and shadows
