Well, it appears they stuck closely to the source material considering the RT score.

Because, man, that second book completely sucks too.

It was about the same as the first one - OK, enjoyable and interesting.

Not great, not awful.

I find it odd that there could be such a disparity between the critics and the audience.

I just looked up both movies on Rotten Tomatoes and the first movie recieved a 77% plus rating while Kick-Ass 2 has a 28% negative rating!!

The reviews I've read so far are generally saying the same thing: pretty much like the first, but the novelty isn't there (obviously). I've read few reviews where they outright hated it and of the more positive ones I've read the film should be getting about a 70-75% approval rating.

So something doesn't seem right to me. Mind you critics can be more jaded than average movie goers.

Well not everyone thinks that. Kick-Ass 2 happens to be one of my favorite comics ever. Every once in a while I'll pull out my HC copy of it and give it a read. It's got a nice quick pace, a great story, and a powerful message: "Being a hero has it's consequences."

Got that right, Bub!

Kick-Ass 2 works! And it works because of the brutality and stakes involved!

Most superhero stories have stakes that are completely nonsensical. Loki wants to conquer the world. The Joker wants to burn down Gotham. Lex Luthor wants to sink an entire state to make beachfront property in Arizona.

What kind of stakes are those?

The Motherfucker wants to hurt Kick-Ass by killing everybody he ever loved. It's a classic revenge story and his methods are appropriately brutal. The violence in Kick-Ass 2 services the story.

I consider this a nice change. Superhero stories are hypocritical in their violence. A bunch of invincible people hitting each other and knocking buildings down and nobody ever gets hurt. It's all sanitized. Fake. Plastic. Generic.

They pander to the desensitized.

The reason Kick-Ass 2: The Comic works is because it is REsensitizing. It portrays real world violence. Yes it portrays it in an OTT way but rape, mass shootings, animal violence, bombings...

Is it offensive?

Yes!

Is it horrifying!

Yes!

But you know what?

Violence is offensive!

Violence is horrifying!

And that’s how it should be portrayed!

Superhero movies and comics glorify violence on a monthly basis!

Kick-Ass 2 makes violence ugly and that’s exactly how it should be! It’s one hell of a REsensitizing book and it’s no surprise that there are people who hate it.

Desensitization is easier.

"Kick-Ass 2" was outstanding and as Aldo and Admiral James Kirk stated very eloquently contained a very important message within it, a message that some fans who have read it seem to have mis-understood. There has been an under laying social commentary throughout the whole thing that I really like as well. I understand not liking it, but it is one of my absolute favourite comics.

As a movie I found it quite enjoyable, which was actually surprising to me since I love the comic so much and hated hearing about all the alterations. But seen in the context of the movie they worked...for the most part.

I'm not going to lie though, Jeff Wadlow is no Vaughn. He's component enough, but the movie definitely missed some of his style.

I had to drag myself out to see it but I'm glad I did. Chloe Moretz totally and utterly stole the show and Christopher Mintz-Plasse was absolutely fantastic as the villain.

- Stay to the end of the closing credits. There's more.

- I was surprised by the use of the sick stick. Lifted right from Minority Report.

- Yancy Butler playing a drunk? Bold.

- The masks were pretty effective. I wouldn't have recognized a lot of the characters out of costume.

I just got back from it and I really enjoyed it. I had forgotten how much Kick-Ass is a freaking blast. The film is still really funny, the action is violent as hell, and the performances were great. After for the alterations to the darkest scenes, I will say they did a really nice job with them.

There was one change I didn't care for and that had to do with the location of the final battle. I'm sure that had to do with the budget more than anything though.

And hey, Jorah Mormont pops up! Clean-shaven, he looks a lot like a younger Jack Nicholson.

Kick-Ass 2 made an estimated 5.8 Million yesterday.
