Re: Episode of the Week: 3x06 "Booby Trap"

Was one of the best of that season I felt.

Though Geordi in the teaser was clearly beta, not Alpha lol..

Seriously, I see little wrong in it in general.

Really enjoy this outing, has tremendous rewatch value IMHO. As others have commented, the Jones score is excellent.

Which, sadly, led to Ron Jones being fired.

Can't be too good of a composer....

He got fired after The Drumhead, I think.

Re: Episode of the Week: 3x06 "Booby Trap"

The Leah Brahms simulation is never sentient in this episode, so I don't see an issue with LaForge's conclusion about 'Turning power off'. That's more a tactical statement that he is in the habit of solving problems by throwing more technology at them whereas sometimes lower tech solutions are counterintuitively more effective.

Yes, but it's those memorable scores that eventually got Jones the axe. Berman didn't want music that stood out at all.

In early TNG, you can always tell a Ron Jones score, usually before the end of the teaser. There's a distinct melody, for starters. Dennis McCarthy is a fine composer, but a lot of his music is just.... "there". I did enjoy McCarthy's score for Yesterday's Enterprise though, very moody.
