Not feeling much sympathy with the complaints on Papelbon. Even the best closers are going to blow some now and again.

This. I could deal with Papelbon's ineffectiveness if he kept his mouth shut. But he doesn't seem to be interested in doing that. Whether it's Ryan Howard, Chase Utley, or the whole Phillies roster, he's determined to do whatever he can to blame everyone else but himself for his inability to get hitters out when he needs to.

I'm not gong to make excuses for Howard and Utley because neither has performed as expected for the past two or three seasons (and longer than that in Utley's case), but when has either of them said anything negative about a teammate? Papelbon should do his job and keep quiet about the Phillies' problems. I get that he doesn't like to lose, but his sounding off through the media isn't making things any better.

Re: MLB Season Discussion - 2013

So when does this bloodbath begin? I've been checking all day and haven't seen anything. I don't care all that much about A-Rod at this point but I'm very interested to see if there are any suspensions that could be a dagger to a team in a playoff race. Nelson Cruz is going to be a big problem for the Rangers who are struggling trying to catch the A's and it appears the A's won't lose Colon as he has already served a suspension retroactively.

Anybody else? I thought I read somewhere that Gio Gonzalez was on that list.

Preliminary information. I think most people knew about Cruz and Peralta. There aren't any real pennant race implications with this list outside of those two. I believe there is still more to follow. Most guys have decided not to appeal.

Well A-Rod got the hammer. Rest of this season and next. Poor guy, all those millions lost.

A-Rod is apparently going to fight it tooth and nail, but we all know what the result with be.

I hope A-Rod hits a 600-foot dinger, flips the bat into the 20th row and takes like two minutes to round the bases tonight.

Why not? Might be his last chance, and the boo birds will be flying higher than anything he hits.

Nah, he'll appeal this, and that wouldn't get heard until most likely October, which would put a ruling sometime in November or December. We'll see a lot more of Rodriguez this year.

I'm betting Selig's going to do everything he can to make it quicker.

As am I. We'll have a decision by the end of the week.

We will not. The suspension was filed under the Joint Drug Agreement, which allows for immediate appeal and the stay on suspension until the appeal is heard and decided upon (the mechanism by which guys like Braun and Melky continued to play until their appeals were heard, which took several months; MLB fired arbitrator Shyam Das after he ruled in Braun's favor aftor a lengthy process). The MLBPA has already filed that appeal. There is no possibility of Selig acting unilaterally at this point -- the process is in motion.

Going to enjoy A-Rod being a giant black cloud over the yanks while he appeals, they asked for it when they gave him that idiotic deal.
