God save the queen. We mean it, man.

And I think even those countries who don't have an actual monarchy often aren't any more egalitarian. America was led by a Bush, followed by a Clinton, followed by a Bush, then almost followed by another Clinton, and whilst I'm not up to speed on current predictions for the next election, is it still possible it might end up Jeb vs Hilary?
Probably the closest thing we've had to royalty in the US was the Kennedys, and they're fading away. But you're right; the people will always create some kind of royalty.

I'm a Scot and we officially don't care. Unofficially if the SNP wave the republican banner they'll lose the independence referendum because unofficially most Scots are conservative with a small 'c', meaning we're all Labour but we don't want anything to change. That said, inherited privelege is indefensible.

Ah, I knew I butchered the English language again. It deserved it, it knows what it has done !

We can mock the Flemish Belgian.
Can we start with the Caprice des Dieux? Parliaments are so much fun.
But Bruxelles is another world.

So 10 people voted down ? 10 people should check their baboon face before voting in those thread.

Kate Middleton didn't invent the royal family, she just married into it.

Articulately put.

Why rid our country of one of the few things that still makes it special and somewhat unique? Why rid the country of a crucial reminder to future generations that Britain is a continuing legacy and not something to be treated as disposable? Why dilute British culture to such an absurd degree? The monarchy is such an important part of distinguishing British culture from the others. Can people even imagine England without a monarch?

I've lived in the UK. So I am an expert on this matter. The Royal Family is colourful, much of the UK is not. I fear if you just vanished them and all their accompanying folderol from existence the rain and the economy and the general dreariness of outlook would collapse the place into a depression.

A lot maybe, but nowhere near a majority. Frankly the Royals are more popular than they've been in a while, so I doubt they're going anywhere just yet
