Sorry to hear of it. Fantastically watchable tough guy, his credibility enhanced by his real-life career as a policeman. He will be missed. RIP.

One of the standout crime and police dramas of my formative years. Gorgeous show. Excellent cast. Superb writing. Evocative atmosphere. And Dennis Farina was a significant part of what made all of those work so well for the two short years that the show was on the air.

A series - and a lead actor - who both went before their time.

Such a shame. 69 is too young.

We lost a good one today. Lots of others lately but this one is like a punch to the gut for me. I've been rewatching Crime Story lately and Mike Torello was my favorite character of his. Rest in peace Mr. Farina.

Such sad news RIP Mr. Farina... He was a great actor in both comedy and drama; very distinctive voice, and from I've heard, an all around great guy. I loved him in Midnight Run and Big Trouble (a very funny movie based on a book by Dave Barry about idiots with a bomb that ended up on an airplane. Sadly it was scheduled to open right after 911, so it ended up being a straight to video release).

Re: Dennis Farina dead at 69

The same people who made Miami Vice produced Crime Story and there were stylistic similarities between the two, but the Farina series was a whole lot better, more atmospheric and more interestingly written.

On eof my favorite character actors. Midnight Run is one of my favorite films, and it's no small part to his role in that film.

Wow. Totally unexpected. He was a solid character actor who appeared in too many memorable movies to name.

This makes two featured players from GET SHORTY passing away in a handful of weeks. James Gandolfini, and now Dennis Farina. And with two of his three fellow ''Sweathogs'' similarly passing on in the same year, I wouldn't blame Travolta for thinking death comes in twos instead of threes....

I couldn't stand him on Law and Order, don't know if it was his acting or the writing, but he will be missed.
