DW theme to close out the show. They really had them packed in this year.

I was at the concert. It was a great night. Loved seeing everyone and I felt sorry for the people in the costumes (especially Dan Starkey as Strax) as it was so hot in the Royal Albert Hall.

Oh, and a nice clip of everyone filing offstage at the end. Matt and Peter hug. Awwww.

I was just reading about that. Apparently the heat was throwing off some of the electronic instruments as well.

I'm not certain of the validity of this report, but the next Doctor may be revealed tonight at the Proms.
So, since the internet isn't ablaze with the story, I take it this didn't happen?

The synth sounded a bit off during the rendition of the main theme. The 2010 Proms version is outstanding.

Forget the internet, Facebook alone would be burning right now. I think it's safe to say it was a just rumor.

I enjoyed the above clips, especially with Matt Smith and Jenna Coleman. Matt Smith is such a goofball.

On the Radio 3 broadcast, the commentator who was explaining the visuals made a comment about "And right at the end there, a glimpse of the new Doctor, John Hurt." Possibly the rumour came out of someone seeing her notes and garbling it a bit?

I don't like Murray Gold's "music", how much classic stuff was played?

Not much and only pieces that appeared in episodes of Who.

Listen to the longer version on iplayer to hear the interviews with Nick Briggs and others talking about the importance of sound on the programme it's where the interval was and lasts bout 20 minutes.

I enjoyed listening to the Prom this afternoon, don't know I'd I was that taken with the new piece for the 50th though.

That piece shows up how Murray Gold's stuff really isn't that good, at least as stand-alone music - it can get you through association with the scene it originally played over, but standing solo, as this piece does in advance of hearing it in context, it falls flat.
Of course, that's a point which can be made about a lot of incidental music: indeed, there's an argument that it should work like that, remaining secondary to the drama.

I think he's a hack that frequently ruins scenes, removing all suspense and scare factor. Characters are slowly walking through a dark, sinister area? Let's play some LOUD, FAST, UNINSPIRED ACTION MUSIC.

If Murray Gold scored The Exorcist, it would have been a fucking train wreck.

That's what the producers want. If it wasn't, he'd have been fired years ago.

I don't have this problem with any other show though. The incidental music in New Who, is the most problematic I've ever encountered. Sometimes I can't even hear the dialogue.

I think new Doctor Who has the best incidental music of any television program that's not Battlestar Galactica. I love me some Murray Gold.
