Unless there is aditional background info in them why should i buy it?
There were additional scenes in each issue, IIRC, including a Shatner Kirk holographic cameo when Ambassador Spock meets Young Kirk.
Did that actually happen, or was it just a pre-release rumor?

^The scene was scripted but not filmed. I remember reading the text of the scene at some point. It was a good scene, though it wasn't necessary to the film so I understand why it was left out. Although I think it came toward the end of the film and didn't involve the young Kirk.

I know it wasn't filmed; I was asking if it actually happened in the comics. I remember that TrekMovie speculated the scene would be in the comic, but that was before the final issue actually came out.

No, or it would have been in the DVD's bonus scenes. Shatner infamously said, "It don't do cameos". (Although he's done quite a few over the decades.) It was scripted, though.

Yes, it's in the comic.

Mmmm, quick riffle and I'm not seeing it. Did they use it in the Ongoing?

The scene can be found in this early (and F-bomb laced, for those with sensitive ears/eyes) script here, for anyone interested: http://www.imsdb.com/scripts/Star-Trek.html

Personally, for me, it's that I want to be able to read the full story together. Where the movie is self-contained, I wouldn't be so bothered but here we have a prequel and a sequel both building on what was in the movie. The adaptation is desirable because I can then read the whole story from start to finish.

Just read the latest issue of ongoing at last. I certainly wasn't expecting the story to go in that direction but it's fun enough if a little vague on when Vulcans became immune to heat and smoke... The story feels a bit more comic-booky, although I'm enjoying the interludes with the romulans and klingons.

Biggest grip - still no T'Pau!

Maybe tpau died on Vulcan....I find it kind of outlandish that tpring is even still alive. spock should have just mated with tpring and gotten over it. I don't get why he wonder of into a volcano in issue #22.

the after darkness comics is far far from impressive.

It's possible that she died but in a franchise that so far has no significant women in positions of power it seems like a criminal waste to kill her off camera when they could use her more regularly.

How many significant men in positions of power have we seen in a film franchise that is only two films long?

Unless Orci & Kurtzman have already decided that they want T'Pau dead, or already know that she won't be needed in the next film, I can't see IDW's comic arbitrarily pronouncing her dead.

Have you checked if she's a character on New Vulcan in the tie-in computer game?

Robau, George Kirk, Nero, Pike, the Academy commandant, Sarek, Spock, James Kirk, Admiral Marcus. Which is more than zero.

Plus, Spock's new commanding officer in STiD whose name escapes me, and since we are talking about T'Pau in the context of the comic franchise: High Commissioner Ferris, seven Romulan men sitting on the jury in the Romulan Senate, Robert April, and Commander Kor.

Anything else you want to add Therin?

I agree that they won't likely arbitrarily pronounce her dead in the comics but by the same token, I seriously doubt that they are consciously keeping her in reserve. I don't have access to the computer game.

^I assume "significant" means significant in the story. So offscreen characters like Spock's new captain, or bit players like Komack and Chandra in the Academy hearing or the other admirals in the Daystrom briefing, wouldn't count.

So, is the Shatner!Kirk scene in the actual comic, or not?

I also had not heard anything more about than that it might be in the comic version, which was before the actual release of the comic.

I've been trying to find all my variations to check. I thought I distinctly recalled a bluish Shatneresque Kirk image delivering Spock's birthday message, ie. the scripted piece that had prepared for Shatner's unused cameo, but it's not in the individual issues I checked a few days ago.

Memory-Alpha and Memory Beta make no mention to Shatner Kirk being in the XI comic adaptation. When Spock Prime mind melds with Kirk in the comic, they do show imager from Countdown including Picard and Data.

Is it possible we're getting things mixed up with Countdown, which does feature Nero looking up a computer file about Kirk, featuring an image drawn in Shatner's likeness?

You're probably confusing two memories as one. One of seeing the blue-ish Kirk in the Countdown comic leading up to Star Trek XI (when Nero was reading up on Kirk on the E-E), and reading the scripted Shatner scene that was online when we found out that there was scene for the Shat in XI. I could be wrong, but it's possible..
