Well I think it is fair to say, that this board isn't as busy as it was back in the mid noughties.
I wouldn't have understood what you meant by "Noughties" if it hadn't been for Weebl's Stuff.

I have no access to TNZ so I have no knowledge what is behind that wall.
Consider yourself lucky. The stupidest thing I ever did here was access that "forum".

If I had the ability, I'd ban myself from it.

For several lifetimes.
If there's one thing I noticed about the TNZ forum (And it goes well with the "Old Misc" feel), it's how cliequy it's become. I go in there and notice if you have an ounce of conservativism in you, you will be blasted as a troll or something. Heaven forbid anyone post anything in there that talked good about Romney (And I thought there were good aspects about him).
While it's true, there is a much more liberal bent in TNZ, I don't think you're exactly being fair to everyone who posts in there.

Mitt Romney was a liar and a scumbag. It wasn't that you weren't allowed to go to TNZ and post about him. It was that the majority of the people in there already knew enough about Romney to have formed their opinions on him and in an election season as contentious as the last one, of course the vultures would start circling. If you want an actual, fair, academic discussion about issues or politics, it can be had in TNZ if the stars align, but it's by no means a guarantee, and certainly not when it comes to such hot topics as the last election.

Also, there was one time when that Troll thread actually pissed me off. I had a thread in here (Misc) and got blasted for it in the troll thread.
Is this about that time I complained in the Troll thread about how whiny you sometimes are? I thought we reached an accord privately about that?

Putting that aside for the moment, the fact that you're not supposed to talk about what happens in TNZ out side of TNZ, and putting aside for the moment that you're completely ignoring the entire purpose of the Troll thread, you might have a point but here you are, whining again.

I didn't say it at the time, but if you're going to blast me for something, do it to me, not go run off to your "safe" forum like a coward.
Well, not that I agree with you at all that it is cowardly to use a thread in a secured forum for precisely what that thread is designed to do, I'm responding to you here because that's what you seem to want. Hopefully you'll take that in to consideration with whatever reply you choose to offer to this post.

There are things I miss about this forum but there are some good threads that pop up every now and then. I noticed for me now it's if I'm in the mood to post, I will really post. Most times I just lurk though.
TNZ is the Misc of old, but with the practice mitts removed. Mr. Laser Beam nailed it on the head when he said that you really just need to know how to argue your point well in TNZ. That's all. If you can't do that, then of course you're going to dislike it because it is, by design, no-holds barred in there. What was it Q said in "Q-Who?"

Q said:
If you can't take a little bloody nose, maybe you ought to go back home and crawl under your bed. It's not safe out here. It's wondrous, with treasures to satiate desires both subtle and gross. But it's not for the timid.
Just my two cents. Your mileage may, of course, vary.

Re: Any old timers still around?

Doubleohfive,

No it wasn't about that. It was about something else, and yes we did clear the air about what you brought up.

In terms of going to talk about it in that one thread, isn't that the equivilant of talking behind someone's back? I admit I lurk mostly in TNZ but when I post something and then it get's criticized without me knowing about it, I had a problem with that. However, that was in the past and I was replying to the idea that TNZ was like the Old Misc.

You are right about one thing though. I do have a tendency to complain and it is something I really do need to work on. Sorry if I came off as harsh.

This. These days TNZ is like a S&M club with dozens of doms punishing the same couple of subs again and again.

Oh. And is there a secret handshake?
It involves an act of sexual depravity. Don't even ask what what I had to do.

The secret handshake wouldn't be so bad if it didn't involve gentle nibbling on the ear.

Depends on who's doing the nibbling.

It's nice to see you, Evil Robert. I think about you from time to time... especially when I see a cute Mormon boy on the street. It reminds me of some things we discussed over on Livejournal, back in the day. I'm glad to see you're doing well.

As for the German studies... try not to sprain your tongue on those umlauts or 30-letter words.

Re: Any old timers still around?

Hey TT, nice to see you still around. How are the rest of the Toronto crew these days? Lol my post earlier actually mentioned two former posters (castek & cheshirecat_7) who lived at some point in Toronto, but as far as I'm aware where not a part of the Toronto Star Trek Crew that frequented this board and a few other places :-)

I have been visiting LJ lately but tumbleweeds are rolling by there now! Other then T'Bonz and one Snark community I use to read nobody is there anymore!

I dread to think what we discussed lol - it could've been anything!!! Hehehe

German words are nothing! The grammar is evil and not very efficient. Dative cases are making my life hell!

Re: Any old timers still around?

I still see Rosemary and Emissary from time to time - nothing much has changed for either of them, though Emissary finished university since those days, of course.

I've run into Dorothy_Zbornak once or twice - he now lives in my old neighbourhood (I bought a condo a year and a half ago and moved from the apartment I'd lived in for 14 years) but we've never actually hung out.

I don't recognize the other two usernames you mentioned at all, so while they may be people I know in local fandom, I certainly never knew them here. But I do know that one of my convention colleagues used to post here - I just don't recall her screen name, and we never posted in the same fora, as far as I know.

(Wow, that whole paragraph was a Who's Who of old-time posters who don't come around any more, wasn't it? I didn't even mention that a few years ago, I dated Evil_Admiral's university roommate for a year and a half... but he's not a Toronto person, so that's a completely different topic.)

I hang out with Chrinfinity fairly frequently - I was at her place for most of yesterday, in fact. I don't know if you know her, though she used to comment occasionally on my LJ posts. She's been here a long time, but doesn't post that frequently, and when she does, she sticks to the Trek Lit and DS9 fora, if memory serves.

As for our LJ discussions to which I was alluding - they had to do with the fact that Utah is one huge closet. Hence my comment about thinking of you when I see cute Mormon boys on the street.
