Here, early showings apparently means 1pm.

Really? Where I am the earliest is usually 11:30 or 12:00. Hmm.

If I am in charge of Paramount I would be pushing for the earliest possible release date, no point in hanging around waiting for JJ. Christmas 2015 should be the date. Hobbit is finished by then and the new Avatar sequels will not be ready either. Christmas 2015 is the best date for Trek.
It'll be 2016, simply because that's the 50th Aniversary year.

They can make more from marketing it as the 50th Annivserary of the franchise than the 49th.

Well sometimes, too. But I thought by "early" we meant like 8 am or something.

Could be Fast and Furious will drop below STID this week... I'd hold the theater count as close to 1000 as possible for the July 4th weekend.

So in the end, it's grossed a fair amount less than 2009 but its legs have still been good. It'll take 50m minimum more worldwide and foreign BO has doubled, which hopefully continues in Trek 13. I think Trek has hit a ceiling around 220m-250m which it won't break no matter how good the movie is unless they change it significantly but there is still room for improvement overseas.

10-11am seem to be the first showings here in South Florida. Before lunch usually means sparse crowds.

If Japan boxoffice works as well as in China, I bet in $490-500 million worldwide. Not to mention the fact the July 4th weekend can increase box office a bit more.

Especially on Sundays, when many are in Church and then go out to Lunch, before hitting the theater.

I rarely go to the theater, but, when I do, it's usually the earliest Sunday show

They can make it for Christmas 2015 and then do something else for the anniversary like a spinoff movie, new tv show or even film two movies back to back and have part 1 in 2015 and part 2 in 2016. Doesn't have to be 2016.

Not sure that the 50th anniversary is going to be a selling point to ordinary moviegoers... And the fans will go anyway, so...

Yes imho it is not neccessary to release the next movie for the 50th anniversary. It should be made and released at the earliest possible opportunity and imo that would be Christmas 2015 because not only is it sooner but there seems to be a 'gap' in the market at that time.

Nah. 2016 is going to be all Star Wars. Disney isn't going to let Abrams dilute the franchise by him promoting Star Trek the same year.
