Re: Angie Harmon: Babe of the Week #27 (July 2013)

tumblr has shown me one million pictures of this woman who is a slashy fandom goddess.

She's serious beauty.

Who hasn't been past the age of 20 in these threads? Kate Upton? I think overall my up vs down rate is about 50/50. Certainly not down on 'nearly every woman past the age of 20'.

But hey, don't let facts get in the way of your indignation.
You routinely make comments about women being too old. This seems to mean an automatic down for you regardless of how they look.

Well obviously it's not automatic regardless of how they look since I've given up-votes past 40 before.

The too old thing comes out in mid to late 30s, and it is typically based on how they look old. Or how they don't look as good as they used to. If you don't think all other things being equal that women are more attractive in their 20s than their 30s, it doesn't personally offend me, but for some reason the opposite doesn't hold true.

But tell me please, what does any of that have to do with someone making insinuations that I want to diddle 12-year old girls, which is where this particular conversation started, and what you're apparently defending?

Too young is half your age plus 6.

Sadly, that formula still makes her well past "legal."

But if she looks like Angie, I don't care.

That formula is not for "legal", it's for "moral".

The complaints against against Yoda, founded or baseless, I really haven't been paying attention, have been about all the other threads where it's been claimed that he has thumbs upped for only women who are 19 or younger and for women like Angie, "20 or above", they have gotten and will always get a thumbs down because they're too damn old.

Yoda's first comment on this thread was...

Her husband provides a nice parallel. He last managed to be relevant as a football player a decade ago, which is probably around the same time Angie Harmon was relevant as a babe.
One can surmise for that, if he was likly to vote in this thread, that it probably would have been a thumbs down or a thumbs sideways.

There isn't a (n urban dictionary) sociological equation for figuring out if someone is too old for you, but logically it should be twice your minus 7... Which means that I personaly wouldn't have to be ashamed for dating a 65 year old... However by these same rules, I'm a year and a half too young for a 65 year old woman to feel morally safe with shtupping me.

Martha Stewart is 73, gorgeous and looooooooooooooaded.

A few of my female friends asked me why I thought that there seemed to be a lot of single men in science fiction fandom. I told them I thought that was really just an urban legend, pointing to my husband and his friends. Then I thought about the existence of this thread. I showed it to my friends, and they had the same response that I did:

Some myths about fandom are baseless, but some individuals have worked really hard to earn their solitary lives. These people shouldn't be surprised when their attitudes keep them viewed in a negative light.

Way to keep the stereotype alive guys! Well done!

I'm not a fan of this thread, and I don't mean to be rude, but you're "blind".

All men are pigs.

Some just hide it really well.

Sure gay men objectify men rather than women, but it's still the same tools and processes.

They're pigs too, and it's not "better" just because you lot are out of the line of fire.

That's fricking selfish.

You know, there was a time when I did truly believe that Guy. But I have met some truly amazing men in the last 18 years of my life, and as a result I now expect better from everyone, and when i don't get it I am no longer afraid to voice my displeasure!

Yesterday I watched a season of the US version of Men Behaving Badly (also called Men's World.) with Rob Schnider, so you can understand that I might be slightly jaded.

As an aside, it was hilarious when Rob's character spent an episode wearing a Judge Dredd T-Shirt.

Good job. Clearly you've solved it. It has nothing to do with it being a fandom filled with a large percentage of male introverts.

I really hope that one day I can upgrade to a fulfilling life like yours, reading TrekBBS threads as a group

Re: Angie Harmon: Babe of the Week #27 (July 2013)

It actually feels good when a woman breaks you, locking all your passions into a box they bury in the back yard.

I saw something yesterday where someone said "I will literally give you half the money I will earn for the rest of my life if you show me your boobs right now."

Divorce is a certainty unless death gets in the way.

I'm tired of all the goodness, in my age group I'm looking for worse from everyone. I should elaborate on that so it isn't just my usual flippancy.. everyone is so boring and proper once they start getting kudos from other boring proper people for being boring and proper.

It's quite possible we aren't talking about the same thing though

As to the fandom cliches, years online didn't talk me into them being a reality, actually meeting a whole lot of fans en masse at cons did.

Re: Angie Harmon: Babe of the Week #27 (July 2013)

You're 12 when you realize that there's 200 dollars between your penis and someone touching it, whereafter it begins to become really easy to see what shape your life is going to take.

Most men are too stupid to realize that there's no happily ever after and actually somehow fall into one despite being stupid, ugly and poor.

Sports is worse than SCIFI.

Everything you say about sci fi and comicon is a thousand times worse with sports.

(Playing sports is excellent, watching sports is quite pathetic unless you're gambling, until you lose your knee caps.)

But here's my proof.

You don't need beer to enjoy science fiction.

But sports fans have love and acceptance and are allowed to pain their faces in public on their special holy days.
