He would be a VERY interesting choice! He's got a voice that could carry the role with great evil in it.

Yeah, I think he'd be very good in that role too

I never thought it about it myself, but, yea, I think Lani would excellent as The Master. He's proven he's got a good range, with playing Pilot's Voice and playing Crais, and Crais proves he's got the chops for a part like The Master.

Although I created that meme in fun, I too think that Lani Tupu would be awesome in the role of The Master, a more stable and menacing regeneration following the completely fruitloop Sim version, but with Gallifrey timelocked again, perhaps no longer suffering from the incessant drumming.

He's very active in Australia though, so I'm not sure even if they wanted him whether he'd be willing to commit.

Would it be that much of a commitment? It's not like when Roger Delgado was in every story. It would be more like a guest appearance every couple years or so.

We seem to be building a new "Benedict Cumberbatch" with "Lani for The Master", and he's not even British, right? He's from down Under?

Re: Whovian Whumor

Yep, he is, but many Australian and New Zealand actors have done well in the States, such as Hugh Jackman, Russel Crowe, Guy Peirce, Karl Urban, Chris Hemsworth, and Sam Worthington. The late lamented Kevin Smith (Hercules and Xena's Ares) was apparently slated for a break-out role in Tears of the Sun before his tragic death, and Lucy Lawless, despite not being truly mainstream outside of genre, is also well known.

I'm unsure if the Beeb would insist on a home-grown actor should they recast the Master, but it may be possible if it's a cost issue.

Nah, the Master's already been played by an American, Eric Roberts. Granted, that was a result of the TV movie being an American co-production, but it is precedent regardless, and therefore the Master doesn't need to be played only by British actors.

OK, I can deal with that. Get Moffat right on calling Lani and writing up a script

Oh, what was that where I read some cavemen were giving Ian and Babs such trouble, and someone piped up:
