Re: Would Spock Prime think Kirk and a young Kirk Prime look identical

OK since we've gone off track here, has anyone worked out the pip rank thing in STID?
I'm still confused.

In regards to the Pine Kirk and Shatner Kirk, if I had looked at Scotty in STVI and none of the other movies I probably would have guessed that they had recast him from TOS. I think he looks quite different from his younger days.
All the other member of the cast are readily recognisable though.

Young Picard from his days at the Academy looks nothing like Shinzon.

Take from that what you will.

Pip ranks in STID? Rank in this era (Prime as well as the J.J. timeline) is denoted by gold braids on the uniform sleeves, unless there were also pips on some of the uniforms that I'm overlooking and forgetting about. Do you mean the star or emblem-like insignia on the dress uniform shoulder epaulets?

The Abramsverse rank braids of the late 2250s going into 2260 largely mimic those seen in TOS, TAS and ST:TMP except that there are no broken, dash-like braids to denote ranks such as Captain, Lt. Commander and Lt. Junior Grade. Captain in the new timeline is one wider braid followed by one that's more narrow and then another wider one.

^Yeah, on the shoulders of the dress uniforms - they're similar to the pips worn in ENT. 3 for Commander Spock, 4 for Captain Kirk (who hadn't yet had time to downgrade his uniform) etc.

So no Lt Commander?
What are Scotty's and McCoy's ranks then?

IIRC, Scotty was rounded down to two pips. I don't recall seeing McCoy in the dress uniform.

I take from that, they were played by different actors.

I always loved that people considered bald Academy Picard a continuity violation.

Me, too. Is it really that hard to believe he'd shave his head and grow it back later? I wonder what people thought whenever Shatner wore a different hairpiece on the set.

ShatnerKirk's movie hair was a continuity speed-bump that took me right out of the story.

Especially in The Final Frontier. I expected that thing to get up and walk away.

I always laugh early in TMP because he's clearly wearing a different hairpiece for the scene at Starfleet Headquarters than he is for the next scene at the small spaceport orbiting Earth. Perhaps the transporter swapped them out.

So, you're saying Shatner wore a hairpeice?

Are you joking? Klingon humor escapes me.
