What was a retread ? Apart from the Kirk death reversal scene ?
Are you kidding?

--Sran
What does it matter if they recycled a scene as long as they did it well? Which they did in my opinion.
Yep, they've been rehashing and remixing plots since season one.

STMP is the Changeling writ large.

TWOK is Balance of Terror meets Space Seed.

Most techonogod keeps civilization down stories are pretty much the same. Usually ending with Kirk blowing up a computer.

Because they didn't do it well. That's my opinion.

Those films were done well. That's the difference.

And no one will make you watch the film ever again.

WoK reused the exact same launch sequence from TMP, yet it's still a classic. ID puts an interesting alternate-reality spin on a scene from WoK and it's unforgivably derivative? Please.

I would disagree, especially about TMP, which is a mess. Odd pacing. Characters who barely resemble their TOS counterparts. Wonderful to look at, until it begins to drag and you fall asleep.

I think if you look around you'll find quite a few people who think The Motion Picture and The Wrath of Khan aren't very good movies. I happen to like them both as well as Into Darkness.

Taste is subjective.

You're comparing a launch sequence that lasts mere seconds to one of the most important scenes of Into Darkness? Give me a break.

If you're against reusing material then you should be against reusing material.

Will it be looked upon favourably in 10 years? I don't know.

BUT - There is another film that rehashed the Wrath of Khan that came out 11 years ago. How is that looked upon?

How did I know you'd resort to such a simplistic argument? I don't have a problem reusing material or concepts as long as they're executed well on screen and are part of a well-told story. Material that's re-used under different circumstances smacks of laziness, but I should know better than expect anything more sophisticated from a blowhard like Abrams, who hasn't told a worthwhile story since Alias ended.

But the death scene hardly resembles TWOK! TWOK was about age and getting old, ID was about humility, friendship, and family. They barely used any (maybe three) lines from TWOK.

The entire idea of ID ripping off WOK is utter rubbish and not founded in fact.

Most people prefer not to look at it at all.

You don't think TWOK was about friendship or family? You must have watched a different movie than I did.
