That still looks CGI, because it is. CGI will never look as filmic as model work. It looked like CGI on the DVD as well. To say otherwise is a bit silly. With digital techniques, they could make the CGI look more like film, but I will always see the difference.

The most important thing is that the improvement in quality is staggering. And we should all be thankful that these companies saved their files.
Yeah. The point isn't how well that particular shot looks, the point is just that there is a lot more detail to the FX the producers of an HD DS9 have to work with than was known before. That's a good thing in and of itself.

I dunno, the brighter lighting and what not just makes it seem kinda... cartoonish.. to me.

What? While watching the clip I thought CBS might never put that much effort into their remastering.... and they probably won't.

I agree. I would be surprised if we ended up with fx looking this good. Of course it still looks like CGI but that is inevitable. Even with a movie budget that slightly unreal effect is there.

Q: Would people who do not like things 'changing' in remastered versions object if the repeated 'battle scene' in the final episode (pulled from a couple of previous episodes) was replaced with a new battle sequence? It bugs me tremendously that there basically isn't a new battle scene in the final episode, and that the 'epic confrontation' we had spent four years building up to was basically... a clips show. Given that this was PURELY the result of budgetary problems- that the original creators, given their druthers, would have included a new VFX sequence- would anyone object to these sequences being replaced?
I would actually love it if they remade the entire battle sequence and made it all unique. Maybe bring back past directors and try to create something worthy. I know that there are DVDs with multiple angles, where you could watch a video clip from one angle, and the same video clip from a different angle. It would be better if they included both options for those purist out there, and those who would love to see the Battle of Cardassia in full.

^Good grief. More, please! It would be fantastic to see the finale redone with new FX shots to replace the clip show elements.

Oh my goodness! That's mindblowingly good. I wonder if CBS has already seen this. And what about the guys at TrekCore? I wonder if they already know something we don't.

Not only would I be much happier with new battle footage for the last episode, I'd be happy if all the CGI fleet scenes from seasons 6 and 7 were redone, with all new ship designs instead of the tons of old Excelsiors and Mirandas, and those FC ships.

^New ship designs will never happen. After all it would add to the cost.

I don't have a problem with that, because it implicitly suggests that the situation was so serious for Starfleet that it was dragging out all the old ships that might otherwise have been mothballed or scuttled back into active service.

And really, it's always been mildly unrealistic that Starfleet has so many different designs anyway. Yes, they supposedly all have different specialties and new technology, but no other culture has ever been seen to have such a wide variety of designs. Some like the Excelsior and Vesta classes were specifcally planned as testbeds, but others feel like "I'm bored, let's design a new ship for the lark of it."

I'm not sure why you would want to replace the First Contact ships. They were brand new ships at the time.

Not really. We have literally years, maybe even a decade, before DS9 seasons 6 & 7 will be remastered. That's plenty of time for some talented visual artists to come up with new ships if they wanted to, at minimal cost.

I want to replace them because I hate them. It's as simple as that.

In this topic, fans want CBS to spend as much money as possible putting in giant CGI space battles.

In reality, CBS will look to spend as little money as possible.
