Plus after the release of the new movie, and the nonstop discussion about that, it's hard not to be a bit burnt out on Trek altogether.
It was quite a month though!

Yeah I admit the novelty has worn off somewhat. It's hard to be quite as impressed by the picture quality as we were early on, and so now we're basically just watching them for the episodes themselves.

Speak for yourself. I might be taking my time to get through it all but I'm certainly still excited about it. Every episode I come away from I feel stunned by how well the remastering has been done. Can't wait for the rest to come out.

Interesting they didn't fix the missing port thruster effect in booby trap when they are trying to get out of the debris field.

-Chris
I just watched it last night and noticed it, too. Was it like that in the original version?
Yep, it was missing originally. So they are staying faithful. I figured they would fix it.

If they wanted to stay faithful to such things, they should not have done the remastering at all. For sure, they just missed this one by error.

I'm certainly not burned out on TNG. If anything, I'm enjoying season 3 (again) more than ST12. Season 4 can't come soon enough.

Im enjoying the FULL episodes as well with these releases. I never bought the dvd sets. I only watched whenever I caught it on tv; and the stations would really chop em up!

Re: Season THREE OFFICIAL TNG Blu-Ray Discussion Thread

Some random thoughts...

Episodes that remain strong even after more rewatches than I can count: Who Watches The Watchers?, The Enemy, The Defector, Sarek, The Most Toys, Yesterday's Enterprise, The Offspring, Sins of the Father. I never get bored during any of these.

Even though season 3 was the undeniable turning point for TNG, it still has some real stinkers. I'd forgotten how terrible The Price was, and I never really cared for Transfigurations, The Ensigns of Command, or Captain's Holiday. (Not that the latter two are terrible, just not very good.)

And despite having some good stuff in them, there are some really forgettable eps such as Ménage à Troi, A Matter of Perspective, and Evolution.

Oh, come on! We can make a "choose your own adventure" out of A Matter of Perspective!

Riker minds his own business.

I've finished season 3. It's great.

This is my most rewatched season and so some episodes were hard to get through, not because they are bad, but because I have seen them so many times and have them practically memorized. For example, episodes like Yesterday's Enterprise which are mostly about plot twists are not so much fun when you know everything that happens.

Some of the mediocre episodes have taken on a special significance on the umpteenth watch. Like Jonathan Frake's hammy performance in A Matter of Perspective. "You're a dead man, Apgar!". One of the best unintentionally funny moments in the series.

Finally found some time to admire some eps of the really astonishing S3 BDs.
I'm still so overwhelmed, goose bumps every few minutes and tears running down my cheek out of pure joy and gratitude!
It starts off at the first ep with a very beautiful effect shot already by which I've been blown away right on. All those shots and effects can finally get they deserved admiration.
Now after all those years the real beauty of the show comes to surface. Just look at "Captain's holidays" first minute, these awesome colored and detailed aliens... what a piece of worthy artwork!
I'd like to thank and praise the people that were involved there, they did such a lovely job, episode for episode!!
Really a shame that the show was visually repressed due to technical limitations on so many levels for more than two decades...
This is somehow like "full circle" now... finally it all comes to the surface.
I'm so proud of my Blu-ray sets and can't wait to call them all mine. What a beautiful lightening gem in my collection, always to be presented on my shelf with honor and pride to everyone visiting me.
Thank you for TNG, to all people involved, then and now! I love you!!

Yeah I'm starting to question whether this season is really as good as I thought. It's still definitely a step up from the previous two seasons, and there are some terrific episodes here and there, but it's hardly as consistently strong as people make it out to be.

Once you get past the great production quality, the generic and simplistic storytelling in eps like Evolution, The Price, Vengeance Factor, Matter of Perspective, and Captain's Holiday becomes pretty apparent.

Like others, I'm making my way through the season at a rather slow pace. I love the show and what they have done with the blu-ray, but I guess I'm just a little burnt-out Trek-wise. Sooner or later I will have watched everything. And what I've seen so far was just all-around outstanding work, as far as the remastering is concerned.

Another thing, though: I can't believe "A Matter of Perspective" is such a universally spurned episode. I love it and always have. The idea that they would recreate the witnesses statements on the holodeck is great and I love that it revolves around Riker, who is my favorite TNG character.

Unintentionally funny? The opposite I thought. It's supposed to draw attention to how unreliable and ridiculous Apgar's version of events is. We know Riker is highly unlikely to act like that (and get beaten up by a middle aged physicist). Frakes hams it up in that scene because the script begs for it! He's pretty good throughout in my opinion, I think it's a nice episode.

I have always really liked Evolution too. Stubbs is a great character, it's a clever little story, and does some nice things with Wesley and the return of Beverly. The special effects are gorgeous, Ron Jones's music is great, and it's nicely directed. It's a little too heavy on the nanites and the tech at the expense of the characters, but it's a nice opener I think.

I don't hate it, but it's not an ep I would watch again for a long time.

My main problem with it is, there are wildly different versions of events presented, which is a good reminder that we are just seeing testimony, not facts. But when the final version of events is presented, it is just taken as undeniable fact, even by Krag. He just apologizes to Riker and leaves.
