Re: Game of Thrones 3.9 - "The Rains of Castamere" - Rate and discuss

It was a good episode. I actually gave it an average rating, though. It's the first episode that didn't feel that eventful. I expected the Red Wedding to be a bit more of a bloody slaughter, but I'm not complaining at all. It's too bad that Robb's wife was killed also, as I don't think that happens in the books, but it was a realistic touch. The most foreboding part was when Walder told him that if Robb wanted to hide her, then he should not have brought her there.

I wonder if they killed the cousin that married the Frey girl too? I also can't wait for
I was missing Jaime and Brienne this episode, but I hope to see them in the finale. Something tells me that this is when we finally get to see what happens with the "king." The actor does a really great job of playing him, though.

Oh. Sorry about that. I'll put the Catelyn thing under a spoiler tag, but considering that no one knows what will happen with her character, it's not a spoiler for the series.

WTF, Game Of Thrones? That episode was back to just an hour! Was it cut in the UK? All this season have been one and a quarter with ads, not just an hour.

I'm still betting Lady Stoneheart's appearance will be the end of season cliffhanger.

Ugh. This thread is why I try to stay away from online GoT discussion. The book people just ruin everything.
Yeah, seriously. Last year I dropped out of these threads after the book reader dudes kept mentioning Arya/Tywin scenes are not in the books. It may have not seemed like a spoiler, but it was to me as it took a lot of tension out of those scenes (I assumed they won't deviate too much from books, so I knew Tywin will not figure out who Arya is).

I stayed out this season but came back for this episode to see the reactions to the shocking events. I kind of regret it now.

Poor Ser Jorah. Everyone's so upset about the Starks that they're forgetting him being forever friend zoned.

Granted, I will miss Catelyn. Mostly because of brilliant Michelle Fairley.

He's been friendzoned from go, he just didn't realize it because Dany had nobody to show interest in until Romance Novel cover model guy showed up.

The way the whole attack on Yankei was in this episode was sloppy as hell. It sounded like Dario, Mormont, and Grey Worm were going to infiltrate the city kill the guards by the main entrance and then open the gate. So that happens and then a larger and more armed group of 'guards' shows up against the 3 of them.

Then we see nothing that happens until it goes back to Dany at her tent asking Selmy what was taking so long. Finally Mormont, Grey Worm, and Dario return and make it sound like the rest of the slave army inside gave up.

So then they had opened the gate and Dany's forces attacked? Couldn't that have been mentioned at some point?

Yeah the Yankei part was very lame. Made no sense from what we saw on the screen, a bit of dialog about opening the gate or whatever would have helped. It sounded like they just talked them into declaring their freedom and siding with Dany.

And people SPOILERS are anything, anything at all that happened in the books after what we have seen on the screen. It doesn't matter if we don't know if they are going to show it or not.

I have read the books so I knew this was coming. I think the massacre at the Red Wedding in the book had more impact for me because Robb was only 16 when he died so that the image I had of him after reading the books was quite different from the Robb in the TV series.
