I wonder why so many people harp on the Reboot ship's nacelles.
Maybe because they look like uncircumcised penises?
I wasn't going to say that.

Thought about it, but wasn't gonna say it.

Are you quoting from a certain source? I mean, it sounds logical but I'm just curious if that's just your guess.
No, it's the real reason.

From Wiki:

The Enterprise-B model was a modification of the Excelsior vessel first designed by effects house Industrial Light & Magic for Star Trek III: The Search for Spock a decade earlier. Production designer Herman Zimmerman designed the Enterprise-B with additions to its hull, some of which were added so that they could depict damage to the ship without harming the underlying model's surface. (Star Trek: The Next Generation Companion, Larry Nemecek, pg. 319)

I voted Enterprise B but actually, after looking at images of the JJverse Enterprise...I just might want to change that to the reboot ship. I noticed in the film that it seemed big and rather oddly designed, but I didn't focus too much on that aspect. Seeing it in a still kind of highlights the odd shape.

The -D because it looks so unbalanced and organic looking.

Granted, though it wasn't official. Someone made a very nice interpretation of his design, however.

That's exactly why it was amazing! It actually looked like something from hundreds of years in the future built by a multicultural space-faring federation.

That doesn't mean it isn't ugly

As rendered there, with maybe a tweak here or there (mainly the nacelles), that would have fit nicely in the lineage as the "C", if TPTB hadn't given us a different one. Definitely more interesting than the "in-between" design that we got.

Re: the ugliest enterprise

The secondary hull looks a lot more like something that might fall between the Excelsior and Galaxy classes, which the Ambassador's didn't, to my eyes...it looked more like a 24th century version of the Constitution secondary hull. And the relatively small, circular primary hull reminds me of the Excelsior.

Enterprise-B.

The modifications don't really do the Excelsior Class any favors.

In fact, the modifications are only there so the Nexus can take something out of the ship without damaging the original Excelsior model so by definition the design is more about a plot point than aesthetics.

Re: the ugliest enterprise

Let's go one step further. In order:

- Reboot 1701
- TMP 1701
- 1701-D
- 1701-B
- TOS 1701
- NX-01
- 1701-C
- 1701-E
- 1701-J
- XCV-330

So the XCV-330 is my least favourite, followed by the J.
