Perhaps Kirk is already sterile before this incident..there was an awful lot of unknown/unprotected from radiation during his birth..just saying..food for thought.

David was meant to hook up with Saavik in WOK so the intent wasnt to make him gay (before Nimoy in his infinte wisdom put a stopper to that and screwed up the earlier more interesting version of Saavik). Whether the actor played him as gay or his own body language shone through his performance setting off any "gay-dar" that you may or may not have is anyones guess.

Lol. We should get Christine Chapel AND Janice Rand AND Carol Marcus AND Uhura and maybe a few more besides.
Rand and Chapel would be good, more likely Rand as shes not been name dropped in the films and it appears Chapel and Kirk got it on... That said they could run into Chapel somewhere.

Sulu definitely liked women. Whether he liked only women is another matter.
That would be interesting if they wrote him as a Jack Harkness "sex doesnt matter" kind of way...as long as they dont do it as in your face as with Torchwood, I got the feeling they filmed that as Russel T Davis wanted to shock people.

The other thing is why when an actor is gay their character always has to be; Neil Patrick Harris is gay but Barney Stinson certainly isnt, Jim Parsons is gay but Sheldon Cooper isnt (at least not at this stage in his 'evolution')

George Takei may have hoped Sulu was gay but it didnt happen, but as others have said just because he had a daughter doesnt mean he had to have had a female other half.

Any children Kirk spawns in this timeline may or may not be gay but one thing they will be; genetically enhanced super-people.

That's right, in this timeline Kirk is a distant relative to to Julian Bashir!

having Chekov subbing for Scotty only underscores a weakness in the ensemble, that we have two characters doing broad physical comedy...and that they ought to find something else to do with Chekov. Perhaps this...?
You’re full of good ideas, TOM. Even though Russkies are notoriously homophobic, I know Chekov would make a great start. If Pavel started hitting on dudes hard, how could that not be more severely entertaining than a dalliance with some commie hippychick?

Besides, you’re entirely right about the subbing for Scotty thing. I’m about 1,000% sure that when the warp drive gets all jacked up beyond Scotty’s reach or repair, Spock is the one to call on to balance the fuel equation or do whatever it is he does down there.

And why stop at Chekov? If I and the gay agenda had our way, from now until the next 50 years every single character would be GAYGAYGAY, and the whole thing would be renamed Gay Trek. In this way, the straights just might get an inkling of how it feels to be a gay Trekker enduring a gays-free Trekiverse for so freakin long.

Love Always,
Seska

I'd vote for a more subtle approach...just show a matter-of-fact relationship like the BSG Gaeta webisodes or Caprica.

They could have Kirk presiding over a shipboard gay wedding between two members of his crew (established or otherwise), a la the opening of "Balance of Terror". Now that would be a timely statement.

That's show biz. Better than being laid off.

I thought it might be entertaining if, in the comics (where Orci has said they would explain the change in Khan's appearance), the Section 31 operative who happens to be an expert in genetic engineering and was responsible for changing Khan's appearance was surnamed Bashir.

buuuuut maybe that's just me

Thanks ever so much for letting me play in your sandbox, guys, and for an entertaining thread.

You’re right about a subtle approach, TOM, and coming up with the idea of Chekov for that muchly needed role is good, really good. Like Klaa said, “damn he’s good!” Except he said it in Klingonese.

I leave you with this…

There’s that old Trek maxim, the glory of creation is in its infinite diversity, and the ways our differences combine to create meaning and beauty. If this is ever to be more than just some hollow assemblage of pretty-sounding words, the Trek has got to be diverse enough to include some gays.

Love,
Seska

We are discussing the absence of lesbian, gay, bi, or transgendered human beings being portrayed by any character in the history of the Trek, including the last movie, and whether including them in the next movie is a good idea.

What do you think, mattman8907?

See the publicity photos for STIV.
Isn't David dead by the time STIV happened?
Sorry I meant TWOK/TSFS
Roman numerals. They're so difficult

Umm talking about Saavik (well I was) why couldn't she be Spock's illegitimate child in this universe. She could be gay. I don't care.
