Ugh.

We're Star Trek fans, we're suppose to be smart and imaginative. Isn't the explanation that all Klingons don't look alike good enough?
No.

Heck, even an official explanation in a press release as to why the Klingons look as they do would be nice. It wouldn't have to be explained on screen. A documentary on the evolution of the appearance of Klingons would be sweet.
The first three are different actors but are understood to be the same person, the 4th is because of a bigger budget and perhaps Starfleet spent more on ships in the alt. timeline because of Nero's attack, the 5th one makes no sense at all and the last one is because the Kahless that Kirk etc. saw was his idea of what he would have looked like, not what Kahless actually did look like.

These side-by-sides look exactly the same to me.

And all Klingons look exactly like my avatar.

It took 40 years to explain why the Movie/TNG+ Klingons looked different than the TOS ones. And there's never been an explanation as to why there are so many variations of Movie/TNG+ Klingons. So, why does this variation need an explanation?

Re: Klingons in STID--why do they look like [SPOILERS]?

I had no problems with the new Klingons.

Besides, makeup evolves. For the better in this case. They actually now look as badass as their reputation. I like the new creepy ice blue contact lenses. Doesn't make sense with the dark complexion but is strikingly different and works so well.

Also, why is everyone up in arms about them? Another possible reason, they may even be from a different continent on Qo'nos to what weve seen before, oh sorry, for casual JJ Trekkers, phonetically its Kronos.

Re: Klingons in STID--why do they look like [SPOILERS]?

The "new" Klingon look was cool. Klingons looked creepy and intimidating again. Dislike them if you want, but they didn't have eyestalks, walk on all fours or glow in the dark. J.J. didn't reboot their look at all.

They were Klingons. Pretty traditional Klingons along the lines of we've come to expect since 1979. They weren't as radical a change as some think. In a race of billions there are bound to be some that cosmetically hang decorative rings in their cranial ridges and have lighter-colored eyes.

They did look like Klingons. I wish we got a better lit look at them, though. It seems a natural progression, especially since the makeup hasn't been "seen" since 2005. Not sure I dug the bedazzled ridges, though. Seemed a little odd.

As well, given that we had Augment-Klingons and Kiss-Klingons, it's not too far off the mark to imagine these guys are another off-shoot/ethnic group/race of Klingons.

Not quite on topic, but no other good thread for this. I enjoyed the little nod to Martok with the Ketha Province.

They may be a bit more tribal in their attitudes. A lot of tribes like having jewelry, mainly in noses and ears, but if you have a head full of ridges, that just seems ripe for the bedazzling.

Yep, that was a nice nod.

I noticed the nod to Martok and DS9, too. The people who say J.J. is pissing all over established Trek lore and jettisoning the old timeline and reality are full of it.

You know, I sort of like the look of the Klingons in the new film, but I also think canon should be respected and there should be consistency. If the Klingons are prominent in the next film, a two minute explanation about their appearance would be swell.
Oops. You goofed. Allow me to fix it for you:
If the Klingons are prominent in the next film, a two minute explanation about their appearance would put everyone to sleep.[/
There, that's better.

To reinforce the fantasy that Star Trek is real.

Certainly. It was a bit visually odd. Because it was so rushed at first, I thought they were bony protrusions and not jewelry. The logic behind it is sound, though. I mean, we know Klingons love their gold accouterments.

I believe Martok is even considered to be inferior because he's from Ketha. Maybe there are deeper race politics in the Klingon Empire than we've ever thought! :-p

Could be! Plus, their appearance was different enough to knock me off balance for a moment, which I see as a good thing.

Well it does kind of look like a craphole.

I also noticed that Praxis (if that's what it was) looks more intact this time.

Re: Klingons in STID--why do they look like [SPOILERS]?

Considering what Klingons evolved from:

I'd say the fact that any Klingons look as consistent and humanlike as they do is pretty impressive.

Quick question am I the only one who feels kind of bad for the Klingon Uhura killed?

Because that looked like it was probably the worst why for a guy to die.
