You know damn well they won't, and even if they do, it'll be like working on a ranch: bullshit, more shit, piled high and deep.

So that article is basically saying that the non-stop action and the reduction in "Trekkiness" (I haven't seen the movie, so this is hearsay) is because of the studio listening to audience gripes about Trek in global market polls and wanting TDK numbers for this movie?
Yes. They want to make a movie that people will actually like and will justify them spending $10.00 on a ticket, unlike the old guard.

Heh. And you know what's generally said about THAT.

Seriously, some people will never be happy with JJTrek. I say let 'em stew in their juices. Maybe their collective ennui will bag us the prize we/they all want: a Trek tv show.

There, we'll all be one happy family then

LOL. Syfy is showing Generations now, then Insurrection, then Nemesis.

I am just sitting here, shaking my head at Syfy. Some programmer in there must, MUST have a seriously twisted sense of humor. If ever there were a bigger chasm between what was needed and what we got during those TNG-era-movie years... this was pretty much it.

You must not have been around for the wars started because of the very existence of Voyager and Enterprise. It seems what Star Trek actually is, is a moving target for these folks.

Re: STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS - Grading & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Everyone always seems to have a different idea of what a Trek film exactly is, what is it? I mean this movie had prime directive stuff in it, some political parts relevant to today and was overall entertaining when it came to action.

I'd far rather have these movies every four years and no TV series ever again than most of the post-TNG TV series and Trek films of the mid-to-late '90s.

Heh I was very much around. All you have to do to know that is see my posts on this board circa 2003-6.

That post was supposed to be sarcastic... maybe we need a 'sarcasm' smiley

It kinda reminds me of the complaining when Enteprise got to Kronos so fast with a Warp 5 engine.....

Well, you're forgetting that they both possess the psychic ability known as remote viewing, and did not need to wait for the movie to open anywhere near them.

TVTrekkies vs MovieTrekkers. MovieTrekkies vs. TVTrekkers.
I love both of them but I really need to be in the mood for either. I think I'm biTrekual.

Re: STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS - Grading & Discussion [SPOILERS]

For films to be successful, they need to make money. Money is in the overseas market. The consumer base in the US is shrinking as more jobs become service-related, i.e. minimum wage jobs with minimal benefits.

I have seen and read about other films that did well overseas without losing their -ness. Is there something about Star Trek that doesn't translate overseas?

'K, let's remember to keep this about the movie and not about other posters, shall we?

That's the new Starfleet, ladies and gentledudes. Cadets become Captains, and navigator ensigns become chief engineers.
Geordi became Chief Engineer in TNG without seeming to know anything about engineering (being sent down there or offering suggestions in Season 1). And not only that he was an expert from the get-go.
At least Ensign Chekov had problems there.
